Aston Martin Rapide

The following Lot is sold in aid of charities providing relief following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Property of Dr Ulrich Bez, CEO, Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd

2009 Aston Martin Rapide Sports Saloon

Registration no. 59KX ATV

Chassis no. F00039

‘For on the one hand the Rapide plays the role of supremely refined, smooth-riding luxury car as well as anything in the class if left in its standard set-up. Press the Sport button, however, alongside another button that stiffens the suspension dramatically, and the Rapide suddenly becomes a quite different kind of car – one that feels very close to a full-blown sporting GT. The most elegant four-door sports car in the world?

You bet it is, and then some.’ – Autocar Magazine.

First shown as the Rapide concept at the Detroit Auto Show in 2006, the Aston Martin Rapide was intended from the outset to be ‘the world’s most beautiful four-door sports car.’ Built upon the company’s acclaimed VH extruded aluminium architecture, the V12-powered Rapide was greeted with universal acclaim by the world’s motoring (and design) media. Designed and engineered at Aston Martin’s global headquarters at Gaydon, Warwickshire, and built at the Aston Martin Rapide Plant in Austria, the Rapide not only exceeds the original aesthetic intentions but is also a thoroughbred performance car, with dynamic abilities honed on the legendary Nürburgring in Germany (where a race-specification Rapide has successfully competed in the annual 24-hour race).

With 470bhp developed by its hand-built Aston Martin 6-litre V12 engine and delivered through the rear wheels courtesy of the Touchtronic II automatic gearbox, the Rapide delivers remarkable performance. Inside, four adults can be seated in luxurious comfort, with a driver-focused cabin that emphasises the road ahead without forgetting the comforts and conveniences close at hand.

This particular car, right-hand drive chassis number ‘F00039’, was built in late 2009 for the exclusive use of Dr Ulrich Bez, Aston Martin’s CEO since 2000. This luxuriously specified car is finished in Concours Blue Paint, with an Obsidian Black leather interior stitched in Falcon Grey, and black carpets. The fascia is trimmed in walnut veneer.

The car also has heated and cooled front and rear seats, an integrated garage door opener and the rear seat entertainment pack with twin-screen DVD system and infrared headphones.

Since production began in 2009, the Rapide has won numerous awards for its design, quality and dynamic ability. This particular car has impeccable modern Aston Martin provenance and will be supplied with unique sill plaques, signed by Dr Bez, to commemorate its auction for this worthy cause. It has been maintained by the factory and currently has fewer than 13,000 miles recorded on the odometer.

The car comes with service book and all manuals, Swansea V5C document and the balance of the manufacturer’s standard three-year warranty.

Dr Ulrich Bez said: ‘Nobody could have failed to be moved by the recent events in Japan and we at Aston Martin are no exception. After many years’ presence in the market, and closer ties being forged with the Japanese automotive business in recent projects, we have many friends in the region and we wanted to do something to help. The Bonhams Aston Martin auction seemed like the perfect platform to call to action the extended Aston Martin family to support this cause. So we have decided to auction my own Aston Martin Rapide which I hope will encourage the raising of a substantial amount to help make a difference.’

All proceeds from the sale of the Rapide will be distributed to charities providing relief following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. In support, Bonhams has also kindly agreed to donate their buyer’s premium for this special Lot.
