Morgan Highfield Land Review

The BMW X6 has a trio of petrol engines to choose from or if you prefer diesel, there are also a couple of these on offer. As with others in this ‘X’ range, there aren’t really any disappointing engines here with all of them producing plenty of speed and power, even the entry level versions. However, if you want even more energy, then it’s just a case of stepping up to the top level of whichever you prefer from either diesel or petrol.

Actually the top of the range petrol is a mightily impressive piece of kit!

How would we describe the essence of the X6? To us, it certainly feels like a more agile and dare we say it, more impressive version of the X5. You won’t notice too much difference when you are just driving around town but it’s fair to say that the X6 has a more refined system powering its 4 wheel drive, which in turn delivers better traction and grip as soon as you put your foot down with a bit more urgency.

Body lean isn’t much of an issue and even less so if you opt in for the adaptive drive anti roll bars. It’s not too much of a problem but the ride can be slightly firm and this can certainly be noticed inside the cabin.

We have already mentioned the impressive and powerful engines available but we have to also mention that the diesels, perhaps understandably, are not as refined as they could be and you might notice a little vibrating if you are giving it some serious revs. In comparison, the top level petrol models are really classy both at low speed, when it is quiet and when you put your foot down and you get more of a throaty growl.

This is a car with big wheels and perhaps it is inevitable that some road noise will be produced from them. Otherwise there are no real issues with noise here.

We mentioned those big wheels and they are included as part of the standard trim package along with other bits like electric windows, parking sensors, remote central locking, stability control and sports suspension. The powerful petrol model has leather seats in addition to a self levelling suspension. Further optional extras include sat nav, an automatic full beam system, swivelling headlights and even digital TV!

Customer Review

I am so pleased that I chose the BMW X6! At the time of purchase there were a few options available to me but from what I read and saw about the X6 I made the decision. It’s a really impressive 4×4 vehicle and although you don’t ever really buy one of these for its fuel consumption levels, in every other regard its amazing!

It has performance and comfort in abundance and I love it.
