The BMW M3 GTR is a two-door coupe with a solid roof and enclosed trunk. It uses a conventional front engine, rear-wheel drive layout, with the engine in a longitudinal position under the hood, so that it runs parallel with the length of the car. The drivetrain is naturally aspirated.

The M3 GTR lacks any form of turbocharger or supercharger, the same as its standard M3 counterparts. Compared to those cars, the M3 GTR includes a large rear wing and side skirts for a more sleek appearance and improved aerodynamics.

The M3 GTR’s engine is paired with a Hewland 6-speed manual transmission. It uses a triple-disc carbon fiber clutch to send power to the drivetrain. The result is a maximum power output of 444 horsepower at 7,250 rpm and 345 foot-pounds of torque at 5,500 rpm. The M3 GTR’s engine red-lines at 8.500 rpm.

Given the 3,997 cc engine, the M3 GTR has a specific power output of 111.08 horsepower per liter and a power-to-weight ratio of 396.43 horsepower per ton.

The M3 GTR uses a unit steel frame with carbon fiber body panels for reduced weight. It also has a steel roll cage for driver safety. The wheels are 18-inch BBS alloys with 270/650-18 Michelin tires in the front and 270/680-18 Michelins in the rear.

All four wheels use Brembro-vented disc brakes.
