D3 Bi-Turbo is the world#8217;s fastest diesel car
October 10, 2013 By Cars UK
The BMW ALPINA D3 Bi-Turbo has been launched with the claim that it#8217;s the fastest diesel production car in the world.
Alpina take BMW#8217;s already very good cars and take them to another level. Just like the new BMW ALPINA D3 Bi-Turbo.
The Alpina D3 is Alpina#8217;s take on the BMW 3 Series and Touring, and is a distinct step up from the BMW 335d, with more performance, more luxury and yet some very good performance and BIK stats.
Careful tweaking by Alpina has taken the regular 335d engine and coaxed extra horses and torque from the already very powerful diesel engine for a new output of 350 horses and 516lb/ft of torque.
That means a 0-62mph of just 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 173mph (which is where the D3 gets its #8216;Fastest Diesel#8217; tag #8211; Alpina hasn#8217;t got the BMW 155mph limiter) and yet still manages to offer official average economy of 53.2 mpg and emissions of 139g/km.
That means big performance for low BIK costs for business users, with the D3#8242;s low official emissions equating to a taxable benefit that will cost under £350 a month for a 40 per cent tax payer #8211; about half what a comparable petrol engined performance car would cost.
At £46,950 for the saloon and £49,950 for the Touring, the D3 is almost £6k more than even the 335d xDrive, but as well as the extra performance and the Alpina badge you do get other goodies too.
They include extra aerodynamic bits on the bodywork, a four pipe exhaust system with an intelligent acoustic valve, 19 #8221; Alpina wheels, Adaptive M Sport suspension, Leather, heated electric seats, Climate and Bi-Xenons, with almost limitless further options from BMW Individual and Alpina.
Matthew Stripling, Alpina#8217;s UK Sales Manager, said:
The D3 will be attractive to business users who have the resources to purchase a high-performance luxury car but have been put-off by the high taxation.
ALPINA has traditionally been the choice of informed professionals who enjoy fine technology and attention to detail. With such a competitive package, the D3 Bi-Turbo is sure to prove successful in this discerning market.

He#8217;s not wrong, and the BMW ALPINA D3 Bi-Turbo is a very sensible choice for those in a position to bill it to their business.
