That mid-sized sedan is the most fought between vehicle segments, one where you make big numbers: Mercedes-Benz knows this and with the new C is willing to take a major slice of this pie by hundreds of millions of euros.

The technical target of Stuttgart for the new C ( ) was mainly to improve road behavior and make it as similar to the BMW 3-series, and the main historical rival.

After a stellar start marketing (more than 60,000 orders, sight unseen!), Comes the first #8220;face to face#8221; to the smallest of the sedans with the star, just with the excellent BMW 3.

Part of the Mercedes engine is a slightly more handsome: 2.2-liter, 170 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque against 163 Nm cv/340 for 320d. Of course, not stand by and we can predict that soon, the 320d will be equipped with the new power-by-step cv/380 177 Nm, already mounted on the new 120d.

The BMW E90 is now an #8220;old friend#8221;. The sedan#8217;s styling choices of Monaco made a lot about good and evil. Well-proportioned car with all stilemmi BMW, however, certainly does not scream at the miracle of its forms.

It can be said that the Mercedes C Class has had a stylistic revision much more pronounced than its predecessor model: starting from the front with the headlights that leave the round shape of two semicircles joined in favor of a more square design, and sharp flavor sport. Note Mercedes grille in this latest edition of C is available in two versions: a classic thin horizontal strips and positioned Mercedes emblem on the hood (for Elegance and Classic versions) and a more youthful flavor with MB logo integrated in the radiator grille with flaps horizontal shape sportier which also includes a lower fascia more marked (for the avantgarde). The side is characterized by a groove which passes under the bar handles and ends on the rear lights.

Very rounded arches that make the wheels literally disappear. However, the roof with the relative uprights, does not seem streamer as that of the 3er and is characterized by more line #8220;broken#8221;.

Short rear for the new C but with a less clear cut, characterized by a vertical headlights and embellished with a small hint of spoilers.

The interior is definitely well made and have an air conditioner positioned at the bottom and a screen (navigation or radio) hidden under a panel cabinet. Even on the new C is the Command, the I-drive Mercedes-Benz. Door panels by drawing a #8220;conservative#8221;.

However, C seems to lose some of its competitors in terms of quality of materials: the 3-series is more satisfying thanks to a higher perceived quality (perhaps even more than that given by Autobild point gap #8230;).

The interior BMW is more #8220;synthetic#8221; and much more orderly. With Navigator, under a closed lid similar to the one which covers the equipment, and air conditioning at the top and immediately visible. A few commands, with key operated by the handle of the I-drive.

Excellent ergonomics, enhanced by a fresh and original design more than the MB.

Surprising that, a #8216;comfort as the car passed the new C provides a livable inner lower than a sports car on the capacities more markedly as the BMW is little room for shoulders and knees. Here the BMW does better with a more livable and more legroom.

The luggage space is roughly the same. But opening the trunk of the new C catches the eye a lower quality materials than the hatchback of Monaco.

The C has its top-notch safety equipment with devices such as airbags for your knees, the active head restraints and the PRE-SAFE.

And the new C-Class road seems to retain its initial promise: Auto Bild says that the new C looks like a machine developed by BMW so is its accuracy, responsiveness and openness in the reactions. Also now the engine has 20 horsepower more than the previous version.

Both engines pushing well in all situations: acceleration and elasticity are excellent. Low power consumption (with a C plus thirsty), despite the remarkable performance;

The behavior of the new MB road with its new chassis and optimized the agility-control (adjusts the shock absorbers according to driving conditions) is the best you can expect: Steering clear and ready (in some respects better than BMW enough to get a higher score), instant responsiveness and high safety in all conditions.

Overall then the BMW is more active. Accomplices, the elements of the frame and steering which tend to pander to every wish of the driver. The interaction and the ability to transmit information through the crown of the steering wheel are great.

Mercedes for a behavior very similar to what BMW has guaranteed well-dall#8217;agility also control the steering wheel that changes its reactivity to 6% more. However it remains the most votes to the comfort that the performance of millimeter-control BMW.

Brakes a little better for the BMW. Greater resilience for the Mercedes that although the weight has increased from its well-60Nm more torque.

The big advantage of this new C, according to the German magazine, remains the balance of his talents.

Overall, therefore, two cars are very similar but with different taste: more sporty than the BMW. More comfortable than Mercedes C.

Now have to wait a few months to see how will the BMW with the new power-step, and especially the future Audi A4 2.0 TDI, arriving at the next Frankfurt Motor Show.
