3 Sportback Finally Finished

Audi RS 3 Sportback face

This project has been #8220;off and on#8221; for several years with Audi, as you regular readers have learned of the earlier articles. But now it#8217;s finally here, at the eleventh hour before the generational change: Audi RS 3 Sportback.

The entire project is based on the wonderful fifth grade turbo Audi got the green light to #8220;resuscitate#8221;, not least because they wanted to get back some of the nerve sportiness that is part of the brand#8217;s proud history in rallying forests. As Audi#8217;s engineers have always had A3-ball as a sport favorite (not customers) was that you wanted to turbo fifth grade would debuts. But after that the marketing department to new engine of course will come to the more flashy TT is first, and so it had to be. Thus ended one of the unfortunate seat to RS 3 Sportback had to stand ready and waiting for TT n.

As we can guess is most of the driveline and technology downloaded straight from the TT RS. The big difference is that RS 3 Sportback may #8220;correct#8221; transmission from the beginning, that is, the seven-speed S tronic. Manual transmission is not offered and we can only applaud after having tried the TT RS with S tronic #8211; it becomes a completely different experience.

Turbo Five offers the same peak power and torque as the TT RS, that is 340 hp and 450 Nm. Thanks to four-wheel drive and a relatively moderate weight, 1575 kilograms, giving it good acceleration from a standstill.

Zero to 100 km / h takes just 4.6 seconds. #8220;Best in class#8221; claims Audi, and we can only conclude that there is a second faster than we do, as measured, for example, Ford RS500 with approximately the same effect (350 hk/460 Nm, 0-100 km / h in 5.6 sec, 2WD). Top speed is limited to 250 km / h.

Even in terms of efficiency, the RS 3 Sportback better than the Focus RS500. Fuel consumption in accordance with NEDC down to 9.1 l/100 km and CO2 emissions are 212 g / km (RS500: 9.4 l/100 km). It has been achieved including a generator that fits on to charge extra when braking.

As we told you already at the first spy pictures and they have RS 3 Sportback a very unusual combination of tire size. Until there is 235/35-19 and rear have been used narrower 225/35-19.

Originally the car was tested with a wider wheel arches in the rear for a larger tire size, as needed, but it took economists as too costly modification. Instead tested it with narrower tires back and it turned out to work just fine. Most of the weight and force distribution are presented and therefore are not combined as unnatural as it might seem.

New RS 3 Sportback will be built in parallel next TT you Gyor, Hungary. The Swedish market launch is planned for early April and the price list starts at 489 100 kronor, compared to a TT RS, with S tronic, appears as pure #8220;wreck#8221; price (622 700 SEK).
