These confirm that Audi debut its new Quattro Sport at month’s 2013 Frankfurt Show. with a limited run heading into showrooms in 2016.

Based on the current RS 7 architecture, the Sport will be priced above every other Audi even the R8 and will be on a dedicated production line in Germany.

Championed largely by design team, the Quattro will be based loosely on 2010 Quattro Concept but it is has a longer wheelbase and utilizes of the design language from the 1980 UR quattro. Besides pleasant nostalgia and giving its team a chance to take its for a walk, the Quattro is designed to be a counter to attacks on Audi’s positioning by everybody from BMW and to Subaru and Jaguar.

While purists would for the Quattro Sport to use a five-cylinder with its uniquely deep tuning, that won’t be enough or expensive enough for the Audi has in mind.

To justify the and to put Audi’s eco-credential flag into the ground, it will be pumped up, with sources its version of Quattro GmbH’s 4.0-liter V8 will have 40 horsepower more than the mighty RS 7 can boast. That take it out to around the 590-hp and around 443 pound-feet of torque, but only from the V8.

Like BMW’s i8. the Quattro sends a strong signal Audi’s fast-car future in plug-in hybrids. Sources say the V8 be mated to a 110kW electric to deliver 0-62-mph sprints in the low bracket and it will have a top of more than 186 mph.

Sources have suggested the powertrain, with the disc-shaped motor wedged between the V8 and the automatic transmission, will a total system power of than 700 hp and could boast as as 881 lb-ft of torque.

It will be the of all Audis, yet will be able to eke out 31 miles of pure electric which is about 50 percent than BMW’s i8 plug-in is capable of.

Even though expensive, it will still sit on a version of the A6/A7 MLB platform. Its will be somewhere between the Concept and the A6, so expect something 106 inches, which significantly the visual proportions from the concept car’s shorter wheelbase.

Where the original concept was inches long, the production car be closer to 173 inches, which still be shorter than the A5 to tiny overhangs.

It will use a Torsen mechanical all-wheel-drive combined with Audi’s sport differential and torque to all four wheels.

It will be significantly lighter, with suggestions that a emphasis on carbon fiber pull its curb weight to just over 3,086 which will be slightly than the mass of the concept That will still be than 1,102 pounds than the RS 7 with the same

Edmunds says: Yes, is another hybrid supercar a price tag to match. Who would thought that this would ever get so saturated?
