Morgan Highfield Land Review

A good choice of both petrol and diesel engines is the first thing to work in the favour of the Audi A4 Avant. Those who prefer diesel have decent selection to choose from, ranging from smaller engines to capable mid range engines to truly meaty, powerful ones, with the biggest of all stacking all its power behind a four wheel drive.

The Audi billing of the A4 Avant being relatively sporty to drive is a little off target but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a lot to offer, with decent amounts of grip and a handling that feels sturdy and balanced. When at speed, the steering has a tendency to feel a bit rubbery despite weighting up. Perhaps the biggest downside to this car is actually the quality of the ride itself, with even smooth road surfaces proving to be more than a handful and resulting in a less than comfortable experience in motion.

Thankfully, the noise inside the Avant’s cabin is minimal with road noise not a particular problem for this car. Across the range, the engines are reasonably quiet but some of the mid range petrol engines can sound a bit throaty during exertion. A surprising source of noise also comes from the door mirrors, which while pleasingly large do tend to create more noise than they should when travelling at good speeds.

The standard SE trim is a success as far as we are concerned with plenty of details to enjoy, such as 17 alloys, a three zone climate control and cruise control. In addition, this model has Bluetooth compatibility, wipers and headlights that are automatic and rear parking sensors.

In the diesel corner, if desired, there is the option of the Technik pack upgrade which features amongst other things, sat nav and leather upholstery.

The unique look of the S Line stands it apart with its even bigger alloys and low sporty suspension. There is also a Black Edition available, essentially an S Line with 19alloys and a black styling package. So certainly a wealth of choice!

Customer Review

Twelve months down the road and I still love this car. After trading in my TTMk2, I was prepared for what I felt sure would be a letdown comparatively. Our family is growing so the switch was enforced really.

Thankfully, I have been more than pleasantly surprised! I love the CVT auto gearbox. it’s a dream. The power is nothing to write home about but what’s there is delivered nicely.

It’s not a perfect car by any stretch but its features do all seem to complement each other and I think you’ve gathered that I really like it!
