#8211; Basic Information

The Aston Martin Virage was introduced for the first time in 1988. The car was revealed at the Birmingham Motor Show as a Grand Tourer with a front engine and rear wheel drive layout. It stepped in to replace the older V8 models.

The Virage was exclusive and hand built and it is said that approximately 1050 of these cars were sold. It was replaced by the Vanquish in the year 2000. The name Virage was changed to V8 in 1996.

A new version of the Aston Martin Virage was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011 which will be added to the line-up this year.

Only 365 Aston Martin Virage units were sold from 1989 to 1995. These initial models were manufactured in 2-door coupe body styles. They had been redesigned from the earlier V8 models with an all-aluminum body and an evolved chassis and suspension.

It was similar to a sports car in terms of performance but was still quite large and heavy.

Aston Martin Virage Engine Performance

The earlier Aston Martin Virage models had a 5.3 liter V8 engine which was capable of producing 330 horsepower. The top speed was 158 mph and they could accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds. The most commonly available transmission was a Chrysler 3-speed automatic while a limited number of these cars came with a 5-speed ZF manual option.

The Virage Volante was a 2-door convertible version of the coupe. This version was manufactured from 1992 to 2000. There are only 296 Volante versions of this car, built and sold. The engine was the same 5.3 liter V8 but the transmission was an improved 4-speed automatic.

This allowed the car to produce 354 horsepower. From 1992 to 1996 these versions were sold as the Virage Volante but from 1997 to 2000 they were known as the V8 Volante.

Aston Martin Virage 2011 Revival

The new Virage model is expected to hit the market by 2012. The new model was introduced as concept version last year. The Virage will be placed between the DB9 and the DBS models in Aston Martin#8217;s line-up.

The car will be a 2-door convertible and will be available in 2-seat and 2+2 seat configurations.

A 6.0 liter V12 engine will be placed into the new models which will allow it to produce 490 horsepower. The car will be able to accelerate from O to 62 mph in under 5 seconds.

The concept car which was revealed at the Geneva motor Show had attracted a lot of attention. Once the details about the design and engineering specifications were disclosed, it became one of the most talked about models due to come out this year. The Aston Martin Virage was an icon during the 1990s and the automaker believes that the new model will be able to carry on the legacy.

The car has already made a number of media appearances. It was even featured by the famous British motoring show, Top Gear. It has received positive reviews from critics and experts as well.

Expectations are high and Aston Martin has high hopes from their latest model.
