Alfa Romeo 159 Facia

The Romeo 159 started development in 2001 and was designed to compete in the D of the car market this puts it against the Audi A4, BMW 3 series, C class and the Lexus 200.

The 159 is named after the famous war formula 1 car the Alfetta 159 and was styled by Ital Design, the design from the Alfa 156 and looses the door handles but retains a family resemblance, when the two are parked together they as brother and sister the Alfa 159 slightly larger in everything but height. The sharply creased wing tops lead to a shoulder line that down to the front air dam, gives the car a wide and aggressive The rear end of the car is very similar to the 156 but the of individual rear lights and crease line across the give the rear a much muscular look.

The interior of the car has been largely in house by the centro stile it a certain similarity to the Alfa 156 itself harks back to the GTV’s of the early 1970s. The seats have ample that will suit drivers and are very supportive. The wheel is adjustable in all directions, the rear leg room is not class but is still more than

The chassis is based on Alfa “premium” platform which is stiffer than the outgoing 156 this has allowed Alfa Engineers to exploit the suspension, the of chassis stiffness and subtle is a revelation. This is further by the very low ratio steering which comes into its own on roads in fact the car corners almost no lean and grip is enough to bring a smile to the of any Alfisti. There is more dive geometry than on the 156 and the dampers have hydraulic bump stops, engineering Paolo Masai has tried to noise vibration and harshness to an minimum.

Brakes are also a great on the Alfa 156s they are in conjunction with Brembo and the smallest engines have front and 278mm rear which is the same size as the 156 GTA while the larger engined have 330mm front and 293 mm disks. The brakes are also by an anti lock braking which is also connected to the dynamic control.

The engines are a of designs, we have the diesel we have seen before in the 156 and new GM derived petrol engines, we have the choice of 1.9 and 2.2 litre cylinder petrol engines and the 3.2 litre V6 and in diesel we will get the 1.9 cylinder engine and 2.4 five engine. The engines all have a good spread of torque and the engines have more that the outgoing Fiat and will not disappoint any petrol probably the choice of engines are the 3.2 petrol engine and the 2.4 M jet diesel, the 3.2 V6 absolutely fabulous when it is on See our Alfa Romeo 159 Servicing .

Looking further ahead, a 159 GTA be released in late 2007 and could have a twin V6 putting out 380hp using the Q4 wheel drive train. But it seem that Alfa also been testing 159 with the 4.7litre V8 at 450hp, and we managed to find some glimpses of this car on the internet. is also the possibility that could use the 3.6 litre version of the that was jointly developed GM as an interim measure.

The new premium platform is quite a from the old 156 chassis and it is very built, it easily compares to BMW or Mercedes are producing and it will be able to take all the power is thrown at it, I am not kidding this is not like the last generation of Romeos it is built to last. Alfa’s new found build is reflected in the kerb weight and is an issue they plan to over the next couple of with the use of advanced materials plan to cut the weight by 150 Kg which help with the performance as well

The Alfa Romeo 159 went on in the UK at the end of February 2006 with versions ranging in price ВЈ19,995 to ВЈ28,195.
