Adding Door Warning to the Volkswagen Golf and Jetta Front

This guide the installation of the door warning to the Volkswagen Golf and Jetta doors as was fitted to the very Mark V#8217;s before were discontinued for I assume reasons.  Along with the Lights these really up the area around the side of the car and really did the owners a disservice

The light operates every the door is opened day or night but it shut down after the is open for a period of time.

The light visible on the other of the door is the Puddle Lights mod I performed at the same time.

required:

1K0 947 411 A (1K0947411A) – Door Light (1 per door)

1J0 971 972 (1J0971972) – Connector Housing (1 per

000 979 019 (000979019) – Repair Wire for Housing (1 per door #8211; 2

000 979 009 (000979009) – Repair Wire (1 for 2 doors or 1 required per door see below)

As you will see in the guide I only had one end of a  000 979 009 (000979009) Wire left and took my from a nearby connector, I recommend you take the easier and take the ground from the as it#8217;s quicker and doesn#8217;t interfering with the stock I have detailed how to do it this way as in the guide.

Interior fabric tape – Fabric Adhesive for wiring looms and harnesses

Removal Tools

Selection of shrink tubing (3-5mm), iron/blowtorch, solder

Vagcom/VCDS to the door (this can be done or after the install)

Volkswagen Golf Jetta Controller Information Mark V has on the door controllers. This was based on the install in my March build MY08 GTI.

The 1K0 947 411 A Door Warning Light (bulb is and c0 971 972 (1J0971972) – Connector Housing.

The reflector installed (left) and the warning light (right), is simple, unclip the old light by it towards you from underneath and the new one in.

The view from underneath the red light is visible and white is projected onto the area the door.

Plug both of the 000 979 019 (000979019) – Repair Wire into the 1J0 971 972 Connector Housing as shown and lay the out along the route that will run.

Using side cutters remove the tie from the rear of the connector

Using a small screwdriver, fingernail or any other sharp to lever the release and at the same pull the connector housing from the housing.

Connect the end of the 000 979 009 – Repair Wire into location 18 on the If you are taking the ground from as recommended above you will to install the other end into 19. The numbering on this side is 17 to 32.

Please note these are for MY07 cars and later, cars have a Gen 1 or Gen 2 controller and uses pin 1 instead of 18. To tell apart a Gen 1 or Gen 2 controller will have the pin 1 location vacant and on a Gen 3 pin 1 will be driving the door I#8217;m not sure at what is a spare ground.

Route the wire(s) down the harness them through the two labels to the harness. If you are running the two wires as you may need to extend one of them, cut the repair wires until you out what lengths you require, to extend one cable than

Wrap the wire(s) to the harness interior fabric adhesive

Pin 1 which is to the left on the photo be ground and pin 2 to the right is positive. is a zener diode fitted the lamp housing and if you wire it up it won#8217;t work until you the pins or reverse the zener Fit a suitable piece of heat tubing, strip the wire pin 18 from the controller and the wire pin 2 on the lamp, twist them and solder.

If you are taking the ground from a connector skip the next

If you are taking the ground from the 32 pin as recommended strip the wire pin 19 and the wire from pin 1 on the lamp, them together and solder forgetting to put heat shrink on prior to joining.

Bend the soldered joint

Pull the heat shrink over the soldered connector and to shrink the tubing.

If you#8217;re the ground from a nearby press the tab as shown to the right and the connector from the bottom of the flap switch (this applies to the drivers door there are similar grounds on the switch, pin 21 of the controller, pin 18 of the controller and so

Open the connector housing by it towards the front (the that is sticking up towards the of the connector)

Push down a suitable tool to release the pull backwards at the same on the brown/white wire as you are depressing the

Bare the insulation from the without cutting.

Twist the repair wire the uncovered wire.

Solder the two (I use a small gas torch as I get instant and don#8217;t have to wait for it to warm up but sometimes you end up burning the of the insulation).
