Acura#8217;s Vegas-Bound RLXs and ILX Apparently Are For Urban VIPs and Street Performers [2013 SEMA Show]

Acura#8217;s RLX luxury sedan debuted in production specification nearly a year ago, which meant that it wasn#8217;t quite ready to be manhandled by SEMA#8217;s best at last year#8217;s show. But with the car going on sale this past spring, tuners have had ample time to turn the crown jewel of Honda#8217;s luxury arm into unique works of aftermarket art. Acura brought two such works, and a supercharged ILX. to its stand at this year#8217;s SEMA show.

2014 Acura RLX Urban Luxury Sedan

Of the three Acuras displayed at SEMA, the RLX Urban Luxury Sedan stands out because of its wrap. Instead of a matte finish, the wrap that runs through the middle of the RLX is brushed black metallic. The brushed metallic plays well off the high-gloss black RLX and runs the length of the car, past the Acura accessory spoiler and into the trunklid. Big 22-inch wheels with 265/30ZR-22 Nitto Invo tires barely tuck into the fenders, but with wheels this huge, the stock brakes look a bit small.

To dress up the standard brakes, there are cheesy MPG caliper covers that attempt to make the stock calipers appear larger. The same “upgrade” is done to the Street Performance ILX; we’d either leave the brakes#8217; appearance alone, or actually upgrade the brake system.

Acura Street Performance ILX

Modified by MAD Industries of Costa Mesa, California, the Street Performance ILX is an ILX dressed with Acura’s accessory body kit and wrapped in matte copper metallic. A coil-over suspension by Tein lowers the car over 19-inch TSW Max wheels with Nitto NT05 Max tires size 235/35R-19. Behind the wheels are a Stoptech big brake kit with MPG caliper covers.

Under the hood is a CT Engineering supercharger and intake kit that works with a KN air filter and an engine computer recalibration by Hondata. On the other end of the engine is a prototype GReddy SP Elite prototype exhaust. Acura claims that the engine modifications help this ILX’s 2.4-liter four put out 250 horsepower at the wheels, 49 more than the stock ILX makes at the flywheel.

2014 Acura RLX VIP Sedan

Founded in 2002, Evasive Motorsports of Santa Fe Springs, California, created the RLX VIP Sedan for this year#8217;s SEMA show. It boasts a carbon-fiber front bumper, side skirts by Chargespeed, and a deck-lid spoiler by Acura. The 21-inch wheels are by Advan and they#8217;re wrapped in 245/35ZR-21 Continental ExtremeContact DW rubber. Unlike the Urban Luxury RLX, the VIP RLX sits low on prototype Street Flex coil-overs by Tein and has upgraded brakes, not just window dressing.

In front, four-piston calipers clamp Evasive-spec rotors. The engine remains unmodified, but it has a custom exhaust system by Evasive and four titanium exhaust tips.
