To Buy New, Buy Used or Lease?#8230;That is the Question!

Published: November 12, 2013

If you are in the market to purchase a new (or new to you) car, truck or SUV, the choice to buy new, buy used or to lease can be a difficult one.  Many people don#8217;t really know what they should do, and that can sometimes lead to an unhappy new car owner a few months down the road.  At Ackerman Toyota, it is our goal to get you into the car or truck of your choice under your terms so that you can still feel great about your purchase years (not just months) down the road.

As you probably already know#8230;when choosing a new vehicle, you have basically three different options: buy new, buy used or lease.  We are going to take a few minutes to highlight the pros and cons to each option here.

Buying a New Car:

This option can be great for a person who knows they plan to stay in the car for a while.  When you purchase a brand new car, you can expect that the depreciation you will see on that car will happen in the first year of driving it and for some people this can be scary.

For others, if you plan to drive the car for several years, it will all level out in the long run, and you will have peace of mind knowing that you are driving it in the best years it has, while still under warranty in the event that a problem arises.  In addition, you will receive the best financing and rebate options available and this can save you thousands of dollars in the long run.

Buying a Used Car:

This option helps you retain the most amount of value from your vehicle, because the owner before you likely absorbed the greatest amount of depreciation cost from the car or truck.  You have the ability to check out the history of the car and make sure that it hasn#8217;t been in a serious car accident and that is was properly maintained.

The downside to buying a used car or truck could potentially be that the reliability of the car may be questionable and for some people, that can be a deal breaker. Also, you will not have the same financing opportunities as if you were to buy a new car, however rates are still very low on used cars these days too.

Leasing a Car:

If you are a person who likes getting a brand new car every few years, leasing may be the best option for you.  When you lease a car, you are basically #8220;renting#8221; it for a period of time and generally the main advantage is a much lower monthly payment.  You don#8217;t have to worry about the depreciation because ultimately, you are not paying to own the car so the manufacturer is the one who is ultimately taking on that cost.

The downside is that for most leasing options there are mileage restrictions to be considered.  If you drive an excessive amount of miles, leasing may be out of the question for you so it is important to know what those restrictions are before you choose this method.

Ackerman Toyota, home of the greatest selection of new Toyota Tacoma trucks in St. Louis is happy to help you decide which option is best for you.  Contact us today to set up an appointment with our sales and finance team to find out how you should purchase your next Toyota!

Toyota Shares Plans to Increase Safety

When you think about a Toyota, a few things come to mind#8230;reliability and safety!  Toyota has traditionally been known for their cutting edge technology that contributes greatly to these two must-have qualities.  Toyota will always strive to be on top in these categories, so it#8217;s no surprise that they are coming up with new ways to engineer even safer cars as we speak.

Changes to expect on several Toyota models in the near future include plans to add weight to the vehicles, while also finding fuel-saving solutions to offset the weight increase.  Another addition will come with a new product platform called TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture).  In 2015, buyers can expect to see this new platform built in to the new Toyota models.

 Toyota safety representatives comment on the new addition stating, #8220;TNGA is very good timing to change the structure drastically,#8221; Kuzumaki said. In addition, #8220;TNGA designs will also include new structural reinforcements to better withstand other kinds of crashes, including oblique impacts, pole impacts and rollovers.#8221;

Other new safety features that you can expect to see in the near future include an upgrade to Toyota#8217;s Pre-Collision System and a new pre-crash system as well.  Other features that will increase the safety in a new Toyota include:

Automated Highway Driving Assist

Cooperative-Adaptive Cruise Control

Lane Trace Control

Panoramic View Monitor

Be on the lookout for these and other new and exciting improvements to Toyota models in the upcoming model years.  Toyota cares about the drivers behind the wheel of their cars and keeping the number one spot for safety features in the industry is a #8220;must-have#8221; for the namebrand.
