Published: Wednesday, November 27, 2013, 16:47 [IST]

Hyundai Genesis is the South Korean automaker’s flagship premium sedan model, the second generation of which has now been revealed. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class rival from Hyundai will initially go on sale in its home country.

2015 Hyundai Genesis will also make its debut in Europe, China, Russia and the States where it will be showcased for the first time at the Detroit Motor Show. Hyundai has put significant amount of money and time into the development of the new genesis sedan and it seems to have paid off.

The highlight of 2015 Genesis is Hyundai’s new Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. This design language is highlighted by the large new hexagonal front grille with horizontal bars. The new Genesis is in fact the first Hyundai to sport the automaker’s new design language.

The other design features include the character line running across the sides of the car and the new rear end.

The new Genesis is also a little taller, longer, with an extended wheelbase, than its predecessor, which translates to a more spacious interior.

In South Korea, the new Genesis will be powered by the four V6 and V8 petrol engines, which come in 3.0L, 3.3L, 3.8L and 5.0 liter versions. All the engines have been refined for improved fuel efficiency. The most powerful of the four, the 5.0 liter GDI develops 419 HP and can sprint to a 100 km/h from a standstill in 5.4 seconds.

All models are equipped with eight speed automatic transmission that deliver power to all four wheels via a new HTRAC system. Also new is the multi-link rear suspension. Comfort level has also been improved to a great extent with the employment of radar controlled Advanced Smart Cruise Control, while a new traction control system improves cornering stability.

The inside is equipped in typical luxury car fashion, with plenty of leather and equipments. Some of the luxury and convenience features part of the standard package are CO2 cabin sensor control, Hyundai’s next-gen Blue Link telematics and infotainment system, with Apple Siri voice recognition and Eyes Free alson with Google Maps navigation. All information are displayed on large 9.2 inch touchscreen display.

Pricing details are yet to be announced. Unfortunately, Hyundai has no plans of launching the 2015 Genesis in India, which seems to be concentrating only on the high sales volume, entry level segment for now.
