2015 Acura MDX

Acura overhauled its entire lineup for the 2014 model year; a new RLX crossover and ILX compact sedan were introduced, and the brand’s popular MDX crossover was redesigned practically from scratch. The MDX became a hit in the market, but there are speculations that the automaker will soon commence the production of a 2015 Acura MDX.

There is always a room for improvement. Though the 2015 MDX will not be a complete redesign model but we expect that it will come with some changes to improve the already superb 2014 MDX. The current model boasts of a well-crafted interior, efficient engine, comfortable ride, capable handling and an impressive list of features, but just like every good products, there are some drawbacks.

There is the issue of the limited adjustability offered in the front seats and that of the cargo space (behind the third row), which is lower than what most rivals offer. These are good enough reasons for the introduction of a newer model. We expect that Honda will address these issues in the future Acura MDX.

Just like the current model, the three-row and 7-passenger Acura MDX will be offered in one trim level. Many add-on packages will be available for buyers who request for more exclusive features.

The 2014 Acura MDX changes when it introduced a new platform that resulted in a slight increase in interior room. With the added length, the Acura now boasts of more legroom in the third row. This is a major victory, and we expect the Acura to remain loyal to this platform.

Some 2014 Acura MDX changes in features such as the introduction of the twin console displays (7-inch touchscreen and 8-inch information) are expected to be carried over in the 2015 model.  Other standard features expected in the Acura MDX 2015 model include automatic LED headlamps, keyless entry/ignition, leather upholstery, driver memory settings, heated eight-way power front seats, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, automatic climate control, Bluetooth phone connectivity, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rear privacy glass, a sunroof, a power liftgate and an eight-speaker sound system. The car rides on 18-inch wheels.

2015 MDX Powertrain and Fuel Economy

The next MDX 2015 crossover is expected to be powered by a 3.5-liter direct-injected i-VTEC V6 engine, which will be carried over from the current model. This engine is good for 290 horsepower (10 less horsepower than the 3.7-liter it replaces) and 267 lb-ft of torque. The engine will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

EPA figures of the Acura MDX 2015 are expected to remain as they are in the current model; a front-wheel drive version will be rated at 20/28 MPG and the SH-AWD models 18/27 MPG.

2015 MDX is expected to be equipped with high-tech standard safety features like front-seat side airbags, a driver#8217;s knee airbag, side curtain airbags, active front head restraints, antilock disc brakes, and traction and stability control. Optional safety features expected include a blind-spot warning, collision mitigation braking, lane-departure, forward collision warning, and lane-keeping assist systems.

The new Acura MDX is expected to offer some competition to the BMW X5, Lexus RX350 and Mercedes-Benz ML-class.
