2014 Honda Ridgeline Special Edition Announced

by Stanley Yee on 09.09.2013 02:00

The new 2014 Honda Ridgeline Special Edition will sit on top of the Ridgeline trim levels, offering a mix of unique visual and interior features. The Ridgeline has put up impressive sales numbers for the 2013 model year, with sales growth up to the double digits.

The Honda Ridgeline is one of many vehicles in the competitive small truck market. Honda’s main selling point of the Ridgeline is versatility, designing the pickup around traditional passenger car standards. The chassis is a unibody rather than the more typical body-on-frame pickup, which improves the Ridgeline’s structural rigidity.

The Ridgeline also has independent suspension front and rear. As a result, it behaves more like a car than a truck, while still being able to handle normal pickup duties.

Even though it makes some compromises for versatility over heavy lifting, the Ridgeline is still a capable pickup. The unique bed design is designed to carry a payload of up to 1,100 lbs, or up to 5,000 lbs towing capacity. Powering the Ridgeline is a 3.5L, 250 horsepower V6 with variable valve timing to optimize low end torque.

Paired with specially designed shift patterns and torque vectoring, the Ridgeline can be an impressive light duty towing vehicle. However, where it excels in capability it lacks in efficiency. The Ridgeline is EPA rated at 15 city / 21 highway / 17 combined MPG, with numbers surely dropping when towing.

Standard RT models have an MSRP of $29,575 and have all the expected features plus a rear view camera as standard. Moving up the trim levels, the Ridgeline mostly gains interior comforts such as a leather steering wheel and steering wheel audio control. New to the Ridgeline range is the Special Edition, which has an MSRP of $37,505.

The Ridgeline SE has unique 18 inch wheels and Special Edition badges, plus the black painted highlights from the Sport model. The SE comes standard with satellite navigation, satellite radio, voice recognition, and Bluetooth. The Ridgeline Special Edition will be in showrooms in November.

The 2014 Honda Ridgeline is truly a go anywhere, do anything vehicle. The Ridgeline has already received the Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS, and has been rated highly for its comfort by U.S. News and KBB.com.

Despite its flaws, the Ridgeline stands alone as the compact pickup that drives like a normal car. It is perfect for those who want to experience the rugged outdoors, but still have a comfortable daily driver.
