Exterior Features

The 2013 Kia Rio is offered in 5-door hatchback and 4-door sedan body styles, in LX, EX and SX trim levels. All have power heated exterior mirrors. The Rio LX is equipped with 15-inch steel wheels, the EX receives chrome grille trim, and the SX includes 17-inch aluminum wheels, LED running lights, and LED taillights.

Interior Features

Air conditioning, height-adjustable driver’s seat, and a stereo with an iPod connection, USB port, auxiliary audio input jack and 3 months of satellite radio at no cost are standard on every 2013 Rio. The EX trim adds power windows, power door locks with remote keyless entry, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and improved fabric for the seats. The SX trim is equipped with upgraded gauges, color touch-screen infotainment system with voice activation, reversing camera, soft-touch interior materials, map and visor mirror lights, and metallic pedal trim.

Optional Features

The Rio LX can be equipped with power windows and door locks with remote keyless entry. The Rio EX is available with a Convenience package that adds aluminum wheels, voice-activated infotainment with a color touch screen, reversing camera, upgraded interior materials and lighting elements, and more. An Eco package with automatic stop/start engine technology is available on the EX with the Convenience package.

The Rio SX offers a Premium package with leather, navigation, power sunroof, and keyless entry and push-button ignition.

Under the Hood

Every 2013 Kia Rio is equipped with a direct-injected, 138-horsepower, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine. The Rio LX comes with a 6-speed manual transmission. A 6-speed automatic is optional on the LX and standard on the EX and SX trims.

The Rio EX can be equipped with automatic stop/start technology that Kia calls Integrated Stop Go (ISG).

Fuel Economy

EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Kia Rio are:

Rio with manual transmission: 30/40/34 mpg (city/highway/combined)

Rio with automatic transmission: 30/40/33 mpg

Rio with automatic transmission with ISG: 31/40/34 mpg


Every 2013 Kia Rio is equipped with 6 air bags, traction and stability control, and 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes. A hill-start assist system is also standard. It holds the Rio stationary on hills while the driver switches from the brake to the accelerator.

A reversing camera is optional on the Rio EX and standard on the Rio SX.

In National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash tests, the 2013 Rio received an overall rating of 4 (out of 5) stars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) had not evaluated the Rio’s crashworthiness as this overview was written.
