2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Hits the Right Note

For such a risky proposition, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe has been an amazing success for a company trying to go where no other Japanese company would dare. The rear-wheel drive coupe market had been long abandoned by Asian automakers, but the Genesis sought to change all that, and it did.

First released in 2008, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe was pivotal in changing public perception of the manufacturer. It showed the company capable of making much more than just quality sedans and crossovers, which was reflected in sales. So what has the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe got in store for us?

Refreshing

Despite the model being only three years old, the refresh is quite extensive. The 2013 model has a new hood, new engine range, new eight-speed auto transmission, improved steering, uprated suspension and improvements to both the quality of the exterior and interior materials.

The new engines offer more refined power delivery and in fact, more power. The all-aluminum 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine now has a twin turbocharger with a larger intercooler to deliver a much improved 274 hp at 275 lb-ft of torque. There is also a new 3.8-liter V6 that delivers 348 hp at 295 lb-ft of torque.

Both come with either a six-speed manual or the new eight-speed auto with paddle shift.

The new transmission includes a vastly improved shift, offering a much smoother ride, a new clutch setup to reduce power needed to shift and the shifting experience itself. Overall, the changes offer a real option to those who like the option of auto or paddle shift.

The changes to the suspension includes uprated dampers, better bushing all-round, less body roll and a ride that offers real comfort while not removing the driver from that all-important feedback. What was already a great ride, is now even better.

Interior Design

The improved materials used throughout the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe make the driving experience that little bit better. With higher quality dash material, better instruments, including a boost gauge for the 2-liter and a torque meter for the 3.8, you’re always in control when driving this car.

The entire range now enjoys comfortable and supportive sports seats that offer a wide range of seating positions, plenty of head and leg room and enough support for those long drives you’re sure to take when you own one of these cars.

The Experience

With enough power to compete with the Ford Mustang or Nissan 370Z (3.8-liter) and the refinement of a BMW 3-series, the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe is a great combination of the two.

It’s a rear-wheel drive sports coupe at heart, but it offers a level of refinement you expect from the manufacturer. That refinement is delivered in such a way that it doesn’t detract from the sportiness, but adds to it. The improved ride, the better suspension, throaty exhaust-note and reassuring poise on the road will have you smiling every time you drive.

What was already a good car has just got better with the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. When are you going to get yours?
