Exterior Features

The 2013 Honda Pilot is an 8-passenger, 3-row crossover SUV available in LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring trim levels. The Pilot LX is equipped with power side mirrors, dark-tinted rear privacy glass, Class III towing hitch receiver, and 17-inch steel wheels.

Interior Features

The 2013 Honda Pilot LX is equipped with automatic climate control, rear air conditioning, power windows, power door locks with remote keyless entry, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and cruise control. Floor mats and sliding sun visors with illuminated mirrors are also standard, as well as a cargo light and a trip computer. For 2013, the Pilot LX adds a new 8-inch in-dash color display screen, 2GB CD library hard drive, USB port, and Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming.

With all three rows of seats in use, the 2013 Pilot can carry 18 cubic feet of luggage. Fold the third-row seat down, and the SUV offers 47.7 cubic feet of cargo space. Fold the second-row seat down, and a maximum of 87 cubic feet of cargo volume is available.

Optional Features

The 2013 Honda Pilot EX adds triple-zone automatic climate control with a humidity sensor, outside temperature display, 10-way power driver’s seat, satellite radio, and a universal remote control. Exterior improvements include body-color exterior trim, fog lights, and 18-inch aluminum wheels.

The 2013 Honda Pilot EX-L offers leather seats, heated front seats, power front passenger’s seat, power sunroof, and power tailgate. Pilot EX-L buyers can add a navigation system with a multi-view reversing camera or a rear-seat entertainment system, but these extras cannot be ordered in combination with one another.

The 2013 Honda Pilot Touring trim includes both the navigation system and the rear-seat entertainment system. Additionally, the Pilot Touring offers a premium sound system, front and rear park-assist sensors, memory for the driver’s seat and mirror settings, integrated side mirror turn signal indicators, roof rails, and a unique alloy wheel design.

Under the Hood

The 2013 Honda Pilot‘s 250-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine features Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) technology, which allows the engine to operate on 3 or 4 cylinders when cruising or coasting in order to conserve fuel.

A 5-speed automatic transmission with grade logic control is standard, delivering power to the Pilot’s front wheels (2WD). Honda’s Variable Torque Management 4WD is optional, and features a Lock mode for greater low-speed traction at speeds under 18 mph, according to Honda.

Fuel Economy

EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Honda Pilot are:

Pilot 2WD: 18/25/21 mpg (city/highway/combined)

Pilot 4WD: 17/24/20 mpg


The 2013 Honda Pilot features an Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, which is designed to channel crash energy around the passenger cabin in the event of a crash. The Pilot also has 6 air bags, 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, and a traction and stability control system. The Pilot EX-L with navigation and the Touring trim also have individual tire-pressure monitor sensors and a multi-view reversing camera.

Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has rated the 2013 Pilot’s crashworthiness as this overview is written.
