Small, compact cars are making a comeback in America, and driven quite a few here, the new Ford Fiesta. The all new Mazda 2 is on the same platform as the Fiesta, so assume they are pretty cars. While they#8217;re in size, that might be where the similarities stop. had the opportunity to drive a few different of the Fiesta and on every occasion come back with the opinions.

It’s a great car for the Lots of fun to drive on tight, roads and economical. So what did we about the Mazda 2?

Mazda obviously has roots in and they have been their portfolio to remind you of fact. So the first area the Mazda differs from the is in the weight of the car. Mazda lighter is better. The Mazda 2 is a few hundred pounds heavier the Lotus Elise, one of the best and fun cars you can buy.

It’s a few hundred pounds lighter it’s cousin, the Ford

This really translates less body roll and agility around corners. The is good on windy roads, but the 2 is great. We had this car zipping Dallas, namely some of the roads around White Lake.

If you’ve ever been out you’ll know you can’t a lot of speed, but you can have lots of fun in the and in this Mazda, we really had good fun.

The Mazda 2 have 1 less liter in the than the Fiesta. All models equipped with at 1.5 liter engine that pushes out 100 and 98 ft-lbs of torque. Our tester equipped with Mazda#8217;s automatic transmission, but it can be had with a 5 manual. This is less the Fiesta, but remember, you’re less weight around. this is also the big letdown of small hatchbacks.

You can have fun zipping around the but when it comes to really the power down, you’re left wanting more. driving is decent, but you need to ahead when overtaking.

One to look forward to with car, though, is the aftermarket involved. We#8217;ve already some great concepts Mazda and others with real racing potential. The of power in this 1.5 liter is just begging for an aftermarket kit.

It#8217;s already a handling, light car, all you now is a few more ponies under the

Standing back and looking at car, it is unmistakably a Mazda. The front end runs throughout lineup, and swooping lines the side plays to Mazda#8217;s key language. The only real with the looks of the Mazda 2 is the of the Ford Fiesta.

I think the looks much better, but might just be me.

Mazda 2

Inside the car good, but isn#8217;t as refined as you get in the Fiesta. Mazda keeps it and straight forward. Our tester was packaged for the price with wheel mounted controls and nice red bordering along the

Another difference between the two is fuel economy. Although the is lighter and has a smaller engine the actually beats it out in fuel I think this mainly down to the transmission as you get a better 6-speed automatic in the Ford.

Either way you#8217;re looking at the 30 mpg range in either of these

The last difference between the two is in Picking up a Fiesta hatch set you back a minimum of $15,965 and the one we tested with leather pushed up to just over The Mazda 2 starts at $14,370 and our as specked out at $17,460.

I can definitely see why compact cars are catching on. If you within a bigger city Dallas or Houston where be negotiating tight corners and traffic, these cars in handy. With all the options in the market you have to choose now, though, is the Mazda 2 the one buy? Maybe.

I do like the way it drives and the way it feels on the My only slight reservation when comparing it to the Fiesta. I I#8217;d pay the extra money for the interior and better looks.
