EXECUTIVE EDITOR HART: This 2012 XJ is exactly what a flagship be: graceful, elegant, powerful and a lot of fun to The interior is simply beautiful and comfortable. The wood trim wraps completely around the top of the dash and down the door is a wonderful touch, as are the round air that jut up from the dash.

The interface is better here in other Jag examples, but it#8217;s not the best way to handle such I hate to say it but BMW#8217;s iDrive or MMI is a significantly better way to navigate page after page of info in a car. I like the screen on a phone or iPad your finger works great.

However, when you are bouncing up and on highway, it doesn#8217;t.

The V8 has a lot of push, and the car glides along at freeway barely breaking a sweat. become a fan of the digital dash, but I want to think about a nightmare it could become down the road. For now, it is informative and fitting in this

DIGITAL EDITOR ANDREW I#8217;m an unapologetic Jag aficionado, and XJ does nothing to dampen my Sitting in the car, there#8217;s no way you know you were in a British The piped leather trim, accents and real metal air scream old-world craftsmanship of a simply not found in German and flagships.

The last two Jaguars that I had the company#8217;s outstanding supercharged V8 motivation, so I was prepared to be a little let by the naturally aspirated version. My were unfounded: The 5.0-liter V8 what felt like as much silky-smooth, unfettered as the blown version. I know it but I never once felt I was missing out.

With the closed and the panoramic moonroof shut, the XJ was one of the quietest cars ever piloted. It#8217;s sliding along in a vacuum, an ominous thrum from the reminding you that you are firmly in of this experience. Step on the gas and treated to one of the finest muscle-car notes this side of a Mustang Boss 302.

It#8217;s simply sublime.

My mainly center on the telematics: The multifunction control is not a model of efficiency, and a system like the MMI be vastly preferable. I#8217;m not a huge fan of the computer-generated instrument though I couldn#8217;t help but that this layout was what Aston Martin had in when they dreamt up the sedan in the 1970s.

I can forgive the some sins for no reason than it drives the way I like a luxury sedan to drive. good enough for me.

EXECUTIVE BOB GRITZINGER: Though the pearly paint, Portfolio trim and wheels set this 2012 XJ up as something extra special, styling still has a ways to go it becomes instantly identifiable as a I#8217;m not saying I don#8217;t it–I do–but unlike the traditional-sedan look of the previous it is possible to mistake this car for else–and in some cases, far, far below its station. said, it#8217;s a great-looking car in but the rear and front views need some polishing.

Inside, all is proper British beauty, with wide of wood trim wrapping the doors and around the front lots of bling and chrome, and stitching and leather to support a saddlery. It might seem but the trim all blends well the LCD instruments and central touch I#8217;d probably take a less bright chrome on the console, if for no other reason it is brutally reflective in bright sunshine.

Finally, put me down as favoring the ignition and popup shifter Very cool.

Power is from this naturally V8 and everything seems buttery as expected, except for the tautness of the on patchy pavement. I blame on the big wheels and tires–the car seems more well-mannered in normal But once you get used to it, and then up Dynamic Handling and the manual-gear the car becomes much more a four-door version of its XK sibling a stodgy old Jag sedan.

When the car really grabs the road and with a ton of grip and a lively of steering responsiveness.

Jag is competing a lot of big, luxurious dogs up in price range. But this cat be able to teach them all a or two.
