2012 Hyundai Grandeur 5G gets 3.0L GDI V6 Theta engine

Hyundai Grandeur 5G near-luxury sedan makes its official South Korean premiere!

Hot on the heels of the very successful launching ceremony of the 2012 Veloster and new brand direction announcement, Hyundai is delighted to introduce another newcomer, the all-new Grandeur 5G!

Known also as Azera in the USA, the all-new near-luxury sedan has been launched today at the official ceremony in Seoul, attended by some 300 high-ranking Hyundai officials and automobile media members.

According to Hyundai. the all-new Grandeur is the result of a three-and-a-half year and 450 billion won of research and development. The final product is a vehicle which boasts sophisticated design, vastly improved performance, segment-leading fuel economy and cutting-edge safety features.

In Korea, the Grandeur 5G is available in two trims, with base 2.4L GDI four-cylinder engine or 3.0L V6 GDI engine, which generates 270 horsepower and maximum torque of 31.6 kilogram-meters at its peak. The base, 2.4L Theta GDI engine generates less power (201 horsepower) in comparison to V6 GDI powerplant, but achieves higher fuel efficiency; 12.8 kilometers per liter, compared to 11.6km per liter of the 3.0L V6 engine. Six-speed automatic transmission, developed in conjunction with Kia Motors, is standard on both models.

The all-new Grandeur projects a sporty yet refined exterior look. With an overall length of 4.910 mm, overall width of 1.860 mm and overall height of 1.470 mm, the Grandeur is one of the largest sedans in this vehicle segment. Considering its 2.845 mm long wheelbase, 65 mm longer than previous Grandeur, the model is also one of the cars, which offers the most interior room.

The Grandeur incorporates Hyundai#8217;s latest safety technology and an array of luxury and convenience features. The cutting-edge safety features include nine air-bags (including knee airbag), Vehicle Dynamic Control – VDC.

Vehicle Stability Management and Emergency Stop Signal #8211; ESS.

In addition, the all-new Hyundai Grandeur 5G also features Hyundai#8217;s Advanced Smart Cruise Control. The system automatically keeps a safe distance from a car ahead and provides automatic stop and restart functions in response to traffic flow.

Those having troubles parking will welcome the Grandeur#8217;s Smart Parking Assist System, which uses sensors to measure parallel parking spaces, controlling the steering wheel to semi-automatically park the car.

An advanced telematics system makes the new Grandeur a connected communication and control hub, and allows owners to contact their vehicle via smart phone, with the Grandeur’s premium eight-inch navigation screen.

Pricing for the Korean-market 2012 Hyundai Grandeur starts approximately $27.960 for the base model and $35.049 for the top of the range Grandeur G5.

Hyundai aims to sell 100,000 Grandeur units this year; 80,000 in the domestic market and 20,000 outside of Korea. In 2012, when major launches in overseas markets are planned, Hyundai plans to sell 120,000 units globally.

New Hyundai Grandeur sales are expected to hit 120.000 units once the model hits most important international markets, such as USA, Canada, China and Russia. Hyundai aims to sell around 80.000 units at home and 40.000 units overseas. [Source: Hyundai ]
