2011 Volvo S40 Overview

Safety and style are the name of the game in the practical 2011 Volvo S40 compact sedan.

There are many changes for the 2011 Volvo S40, including the deletion of the “i” trim and its engine leaving the T5 and T5 R-Design trims. The S40 is the smallest car in Volvo’s lineup, and is powered by a 227-horsepower, turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine. The turbocharged engine boasts 236 pounds-feet of torque and is paired to a front-wheel drive five-speed automatic transmission.

One great thing about the 2011 S40 is how inexpensive it is to keep it fueled up. The S40 receives EPA estimates of 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, making it one of the most efficient in its class. Speaking of its class, the 2011 Volvo S40 competes with the Audi A4 and Saab 9-3.

On the outside, the 2011 S40 features classic Volvo styling and receives a larger logo on the grille. Integrated turn signals, fog lights, power-operated and heated side mirrors, and 17-inch alloy wheels come standard. If you yearn for a sleeker look and more functionality, a power glass moonroof, bi-xenon headlights with articulating headlamps, a rear spoiler, and 18-inch Diamond Cut/Light Grey alloy wheels are available.

The 2011 Volvo S40 exhibits luxurious interior features, like a unique woven/coarse upholstery as standard equipment, while leather upholstery is optional. The S40 seats five and can fit long, awkward items through the loading hatch between the rear seats. All seats are ergonomically designed, while the power driver’s seat has three-position memory.

An eight-speaker sound system with six-disc in-dash CD player, Bluetooth® connectivity, and push button start come standard. A power front passenger seat, heated front seats, power retractable door mirrors, headlights washers, rain sensor, navigation system with Real Time Traffic, auxiliary input/USB port for your iPod, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, and a premium audio system are optional.

When it comes to safety, the 2011 Volvo S40 is predictably as solid as a rock. Standard features include front, side-impact, and side curtain airbags, antilock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution, electronic stability system with traction control, and automatic hazard warning lights that turn on when the airbags are deployed. An energy-absorbing interior and frontal structure and a reinforced passenger compartment help keep all occupants safe in case of a collision, while a blind spot warning system helps keep you in your lane and is optional.

Spend less at the pump and drive with peace of mind knowing that the 2011 Volvo S40 compact sedan is capable of great things.
