The Bearable Lightness of Touareg

is preparing a new Touareg SUV for European next spring, with sales months later as a model. Targets for the new model are economy — both significantly more efficient and lighter overall weight plus the incorporation of a third row of seats.

The design will reflect new Walter da Silva-mandated approach; on horizontal lines and a nose by a wide grill between lamps. It will retain cues too.

The hood and sides have fewer, feature lines and a greater of surfacing, which should a sport-utility well.

The Touareg has had immense off-road capability, with a dual-range transfer locking differentials and huge articulation. That stuff is and expensive, and many customers use it. So VW is taking a lesson from the Audi Q7 and ditching much of the hardware, and moving some of it to the list.
