2011 Toyota Sienna

Toyota revealed today at the Los Angeles Auto Show the third-generation Sienna minivan. Sales will begin in February 2010 with the Sienna being offered in five grades: Sienna grade, LE, SE, XLE and Limited.

The 2011 Sienna features a more modernly advanced and bold design, with sophisticated headlamps angled, sculptural rear corner, LED taillights and distinctive window shapes.

The car will be offered with a choice of two engines: a 3.5-liter V6 rated 266 hp at 6,200 rpm and a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 187 hp at 5,800 rpm. Both engines are matched with state-of-the-art, electronically controlled six-speed transmissions with sequential shift.

The third generation Sienna minivan that will go on sale in February 2010. Prices will range from $24,260 for the Sienna grade with a four-cylinder engine to $39,770 for the Sienna Limited all-wheel-drive (AWD) V6. The 2011 Sienna will be offered in V6-powered Sienna grade, LE, XLE and Limited models.

Four-cylinder Sienna grade and LE models, and the SE grade will arrive at dealerships in April.

The exterior and the interior

The third generation Sienna offers a more sportier profile, with distinctive window shapes and a deliberately hidden door slider within the window graphic. It gets a strong high shoulder and distinct fender flares, sophisticated headlamps angled higher than the grille, sculpted rear corner and elegant LED taillights.

The interior features upscale quality and elegance, yet every element is logical and functional. Sleek seat designs add flexibility and roominess, while central climate and audio controls are integrated into a single graphic element.

The engine

The 2011 Sienna is offered with a choice of two engines: a 3.5-liter V6 or 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine. The 3.5-liter V6 generates 266 HP at 6,200 rpm, with expected EPA-estimated mileage ratings of 18 mpg city/24 mpg highway (16 mpg city/22 mpg highway on AWD models) and the 2,7 liter four-cylinder engine delivers 187 HP at 5,800 rpm.

Both engine are mated to an electronically controlled six-speed transmission with sequential shift that provides smooth gear-shift feeling, quiet performance and a lightweight, compact size.

The competition

Sienna is of course a model most looked by people with big families. However the list of competitors is quite big; it includes: Nissan Quest and Volkswagen Routan . The 2011 Quest is powered by a a 3.5-liter DOHC V6 engine with 253 HP and 236 lb-ft of torque. It will be offered in four well-equipped models: S, SV, SL and LE, with prices starting from $27,750.

The Routan will come standard with a 3.8L V6, offering 197 hp and 230 lb. ft. of torque when combined with the standard six-speed automatic transmission. A 4.0L V6 will be available rated at 253 hp and 263 lb. ft. of torque. Routan features European tuned suspension and steering optimized for handling and improved driving dynamics.
