Used Car: 2011 Toyota Sequoia Review

The 2011 Toyota Sequoia is one of the better 2011 large SUVs on the market, thanks to its well-made, comfortable interior, good driving dynamics and strong reliability rating. As a result, the Sequoia is a solid choice for anyone shopping for a used large SUV.

The 2011 Toyota Sequoia is ranked:

When it was new, reviewers praised the Sequoia for its performance, but inside, some critics thought that the controls on the center stack were hard to reach. Otherwise, they generally said the interior was well made, and the seats even in the third row were comfortable. All of this, along with its strong reliability rating, led us to name the Sequoia the 2011 Best Affordable Large SUV for Families .

The base engine in the 2011 Toyota Sequoia is a 4.6-liter V8. However, most reviewers tested models equipped with the available 5.7-liter V8 and were pleased with its output. On the other hand, not everyone was pleased with the Sequoia’s fuel economy.

The base engine paired with two-wheel drive nets 14/20 mpg city/highway, though only the hybrid SUVs in the class deliver significantly better fuel economy. Adding four-wheel drive or the larger V8 makes for slightly lower fuel economy ratings. The Sequoia can tow up to 7,400 pounds, but most competitors can tow more.

However, the Sequoia’s 120.1 cubic feet of cargo space is class-competitive.

Standard equipment on the Sequoia includes tri-zone climate control, a power sunroof, Bluetooth and an eight-speaker stereo with satellite radio and a USB port. Optional features included a power liftgate, leather seating, a rear-seat entertainment system, a navigation system and a backup camera. The 2011 Sequoia saw few changes since its 2008 redesign, so you may be able to save money by shopping for an older model.

Other Cars to Consider

An alternative to the Sequoia is the 2011 Ford Expedition. Like the Sequoia, the Expedition has a spacious interior with seats that reviewers found comfortable, even in the third row. Unlike the Sequoia, however, the Expedition is available in two sizes.

The main difference is that the larger Expedition EL offers more cargo space behind the third row. The Expedition can tow more than the Sequoia, but reviewers also mentioned that it didn’t handle as well. Additionally, the Sequoia gets slightly higher marks for reliability.

Another good choice is the 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe. Reviewers said the Tahoe has a well-made, comfortable interior and good driving dynamics. It also has slightly better fuel economy at 15/21 mpg city/highway and lower projected maintenance costs than the Sequoia. The main drawback is that, unlike the Sequoia and Expedition, the Tahoe’s third-row seats don’t fold flat to expand cargo space.

However, the Tahoe matches the Sequoia in terms of reliability and also carries good safety ratings.
