Competent off-road performance; top notch interior with plethora of luxury features.

Introduction

2011 Lexus GX 460 is a three-row real deal four-wheel drive sport utility vehicle that offers comfortable seating capacity for seven passengers with roughneck capabilities and premium amenities. It is not only very capable off-road, but also manages to cosset its occupants on pavements. However, most crossover sport utility vehicles provide better passenger comfort and on-road performance.

The GX 460 is basically a midsize sport utility vehicle, which is sold in Eurasian and North American markets by Lexus Corporation. The first generation model was launched in the year 2002 at North American International Auto Show, which later became the third sport utility vehicle to enter the Lexus’ lineup.

2011 Lexus GX 460 is a seven-passenger luxury sport utility vehicle, which is available in Premium and base trim levels. The base trim level is equipped with standard features, which includes 18 inch alloy wheels, nine-speaker premium surround sound stereo system with Bluetooth (phone and audio), six-CD changer, iPod connectivity, auxiliary audio jack and satellite radio, heated side mirrors, back-up camera, rain sensing wipers, rearview auto-dimming mirror, running boards, automatically controlled dual zone climate system, sunroof, third row power folding seats, leather upholstery, driver memory settings, leather wrapped power telescoping and tilt steering column and power adjustable eight-way ventilated/heated front seats with power lumbar.

Stepping up to Premium trim level of 2011 Lexus GX 460 gets adaptive variable suspension with rear adjustable height control, rear air conditioning, additional chrome trim, heated second row seats, auto dimming sideview mirrors, wood trimmed heated steering wheel, adaptive xenon headlamps and upgraded leather upholstery. Some of the optional features on both models are driver attention monitor, rear and front parking sensors, lane departure warning system, sideview and wide front cameras, Mark Levinson 17-speaker surround sound stereo system, exterior power folding mirrors, hard drive based navigation system, adaptive cruise control and Crawl Control System.

Performance and Powertrains

Powering the 2011 Lexus GX 460 is a powerful 4.6 liter V8 engine with maximum output of 329 pound feet of torque and 301 horsepower. The engine is mated with six-speed automatic transmission with four-wheel drive system that delivers power to all the four wheels. In performance testing, it accelerated from 0 to 60 miles per hour in the time range of 7.9 seconds and offered the fuel economy of 20 mpg highway, 15 mpg city and 17 mpg in combined driving.

Once properly equipped, it can provide up to towing capacity of 6500-pound load of horses, boats or jet-skis.
