In honor of Jaguar’s 75th the company has worked up a limited run of XKR dubbed XKR175. The 175 stands for the total production — that Canada gets 15, but maybe Canada doesn’t What the 175 should stand for is the top speed. The standard XKR is electronically to 155 mph, but the XKR175 raises speed limit all the way to.

174 mph. Uh, on, guys. You couldn’t bump it up 1

Top speed, unfortunately, is a largely exercise in the USA anyway. At least it was in California and environs during the Monterey Historics Weekend, we had a chance to get behind the wheel. The did manage to turn a few heads, no feat given the other-worldly of competition-basically, it’s the kind of where a single traffic jam include a Ferrari F50, a Murcielago, a Porsche 911 Turbo and a a smattering of vintage Alfas, and a SL65 Black Series.

The XKR175 does not wear a lot of exterior enhancements, so any attention it grab really speaks of the standard XK coupe, which is now on its sixth year. For the record, the adds Absolute Black more extreme front and spoilers, lower body and rear diffuser; and red brake that peek out from special, ten-spoke 20-inch Inside, there’s charcoal with dark red stitching, veneers, and door sill that say, XKR175 1 of 175 (although we’re not sure the Canadian cars say-maybe, –1 of 15, eh).

If the package isn’t terribly the XKR itself certainly is. A new, 5.0-liter V-8, introduced for bristles with 510 hp and 461 pound-feet of A quick shove of the gas pedal is all it to fast-forward the scenery, to the accompaniment of a subdued growl rather a supercharger whine. Jaguar a 0-to-60 time of 4.6 seconds, but the car faster. Happily, the R-spec scrub off speed in a hurry.

The six-speed automatic, with shift paddles, is so quick, so racy, and so smooth around that you’ll never for a dual-clutch gearbox again. The is fairly decent, despite the wheels and the ultra-wide rubber, and the shows no hint of tramlining. A bit steering effort, however, be appropriate for this sporting

The cabin is a bit closed in, particularly in gray, with high line and limited rear-quarter At least it’s well inside. Jaguar has recently the XK the twist-knob gear selector on the XF, and frankly it’s a less solution than a typical lever.

We’re also not of the highly animated touch which demands too much of the attention and has sucked up too many better left to individual and switches.

Still, the XK, and particularly the XKR, is a serious sports GT car than its suggests. With its black more aggressive aerodynamic and distinctive wheels, the XKR175 which is available only as a — better represents the within.

The extra top speed make a better bragging if it weren’t 1 mph shy of the car’s name, but exclusivity alone is reason to make buyers pony up the $8500 over a standard
