2011 Hyundai Azera in Manchester

For the new 2011 model year, the Azera receives minor updates. Improvements include updated bumpers, some new interior trim, increased engine power and better gas mileage. The Azera is Hyundai’s representative in the full-size, near-luxury sedan market.

This vehicle mixes comfort, interior space, and a host of features for a very respectable price. The Azera is a bit larger and more luxurious than the average midsize family sedan, slotting above the Sonata in Hyundai’s lineup. It’s been designed to provide impressive amounts of interior room, features and power for a price that’s thousands less than those of many competing vehicles.

On the move, the car is roomy and quiet. Hyundai likes to boast that this car has more interior volume and a bigger trunk than many full-size luxury sedans. Like all Hyundai vehicles, the Azera comes with impressive warranty coverage.

Azera Power for 2011

The front-wheel-drive sedan offers a 3.3-liter or 3.8-liter V-6. With either engine, a new six-speed automatic transmission replaces last year’s five-speed automatic; overall gas mileage is also up 1 to 3 mpg, depending on configuration. That puts the 3.3-liter Azera GLS at an EPA-estimated 20/29 mpg city/highway, which ties the Avalon for segment-best.

The 3.8-liter Azera Limited is rated at 18/28 mpg. The engines in the 2011 Azera have been modernized to include Hyundai’s Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (DCWT) and a variable intake system; they have all-aluminum construction and a four-valve-per-cylinder design. Paired with either of these revised engines is a new six-speed automatic that Hyundai designed in-house.

Hyundai says it’s one of just three automakers to design their own six-speed automatic; the new transmission is lighter than the former five-speed automatic. Like nearly all the automatics in Hyundai’s stable, it comes with Shiftronic manual control in a separate gate.

2011 Hyundai Azera Design

Up front, the headlights have a more definitive look than those on the 2010 Azera. The lower bumper adopts an air dam similar to Hyundai’s Genesis Coupe. The side mirrors have been reshaped, and the tail has new LED taillights and reshaped tailpipes.

The alloy wheels also have a new design. Standard exterior features on the GLS include dual exhaust pipes, 16-inch alloy wheels, fog lights and heated, body-colored side mirrors. Limited models add 17-inch wheels, additional chrome trim and power-folding side mirrors with turn signals. The Azera’s headlights are pretty special, with the LED-encrusted, Audi-like elements begging for attention.

The taillamps are pretty snazzy as well, as Hyundai has gone a bit nuts with the light-emitting diodes. The chiseled front grill also impresses, borrowing its basic shape from the Genesis Sedan.

Inside the ’11 Hyundai Azera

Inside, aluminum graining has been added to the center console, and a new triple-blink feature has been added to the turn signal. All Azera models get a green ‘Eco’ light for 2011 that illuminates when driving for better fuel efficiency. One thing that Hyundai hasn’t changed significantly is the Azera’s dimensions – in particular its vast interior space. The car’s interior delivers nearly 44 inches of legroom up front and more than 38 inches of legroom for rear-seat passengers.

By maximizing interior volume, the car offers more space than the Mercedes-Benz E-Class or BMW 7-Series. The Azera’s spacious cabin received improvements in materials and design details. These details include a new brushed metalgrain finish applied to the gear shift indicator area, cup holder cover, ashtray cover and center console cover.

Hyundai also joins other automakers with ‘EZ Lane Change Assist’, a one-touch triple turn signal stalk. Slight movement of this new turn signal stalk will cause the turn signals to blink three times and then automatically go off. An AM/FM/XM Satellite Radio/CD/MP3 audio system that includes a four-channel, 172-watt internal amplifier and six speakers comes standard in the Azera GLS. all models also come standard with an iPod and USB interface.

An available Infinity audio system includes a 7-channel, 315-watt amplifier with an in-dash six-disc CD changer and 10 speakers (standard in Limited trim levels).

Azera Trim Levels

Hyundai Azera

The Hyundai Azera has two trims: the GLS, and the Limited. The GLS trim offers substantial standard equipment such as: traction and stability control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, 17-inch alloy wheels, eight airbags, power front seats with active head restraints, simulated wood interior accents, automatic air conditioning, satellite radio with a USB port, cruise control, power mirrors, windows and door locks with remote keyless entry.

The Limited adds: a power sunroof, heated front seats, leather seat trim, an upgraded audio system, a power rear blind, power adjustable tilt-and-telescoping wood grain steering wheel, integrated memory system, and premium door sill scuff plates

The Navigation Package includes the LG navigation system and premium 605-watt Infinity Logic 7 surround sound audio system. The six-disc CD changer is replaced by the navigation system.

The Ultimate Package delivers a 605-watt Infinity Logic 7 Surround Sound AM/FM/XM Satellite Radio/CD-changer/MP3 audio system with 12 speakers (including subwoofer) and external amplifier. It also offers a power tilt and slide sunroof, power adjustable tilt and telescopic steering wheel, power adjustable pedals, integrated memory system (power driver seat, exterior mirrors, and power tilt and telescopic steering wheel), woodgrain steering wheel and door pulls, and rain-sensing wipers.

Conclusions

The Azera is a full-size luxury sedan offering from Hyundai. The latest model year Azrea features a modest face lift and a revamping of powertrains, making the Azera a noteworthy competitor within the segment. Standard safety features include eight airbags; besides the dual front ones, there are also side-impact airbags for the front and rear seats as well as side curtain airbags for both rows. Antilock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system are also standard.

Buyers who have owned a domestic full-size sedan in the past and are looking for a new vehicle will certainly want to take a look at the Hyundai Azera. It places comfort, luxury, safety and value as high priorities and is well suited both for commuting and long-distance trips. The car could also appeal as an alternative to entry-level models from Japanese luxury brands. For more on this model, visit the official Hyundai Azera site !
