Originally designed as a 2- or 4-door compact sharing platforms with the then-tiny Toyota Corolla, the current third-generation RAV 4 (last redesigned for the 2006 model year) has grown significantly and even offers an available third-row seat more than adequate for children. Facelifted for the 2009 model year, the 2010 Toyota RAV4 receives only minor changes to trim levels and option packages.

The Toyota RAV4 is a small crossover SUV that has grown to almost a midsize model. Toyota cites the RAV4’s versatility, roominess, and fuel efficiency compared to competing models. It’s a 5-seater, with an optional fold-flat third row that brings seating capacity to 7. The 2010 RAV4 carries over from the previous model year with minor cosmetic changes.

The 2010 Toyota RAV4 is available in three trim levels, all featuring front-wheel drive (2WD) with a limited-slip differential, or optional 4-wheel drive. Standard equipment on the base RAV4 includes 16-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, cruise control, keyless entry, power accessories, and a 6-speaker sound system. The RAV4 Sport trim steps up to 18-inch alloy wheels and a stiffer suspension, and optional automatic headlights.

A Sport Appearance option package adds run-flat tires and other upgrades. The RAV4 Limited trim features 17-inch alloy wheels, adds automatic headlights as standard, and includes some of the Sport Appearance features. It also includes keyless ignition, dual-zone climate control, and a premium sound system. Maximum cargo space is 73 cubic feet.

Properly equipped, the 2010 Toyota RAV4 can tow up to 3500 pounds, according to the manufacturer.

The 2010 Toyota RAV4‘s standard power plant is a 179-horsepower, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, teamed with a 4-speed automatic transmission, which delivers 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway with 2WD, according to the EPA. An alternative, available on all trims, is a 269-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine that delivers 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway with 2WD. It combines with a 5-speed automatic transmission.

Standard safety features on the 2010 Toyota RAV4 include anti-lock disc brakes, stability control, traction control, active front head restraints, front side air bags, side curtain air bags, and an anti-theft system.
