The second generation Volkswagen Sharan broke cover last night, in the eve of the Geneva Auto Show, bringing with it new features, engines and design to a generation which is now probably the oldest in the automotive industry. And here#039;s how Volkswagen describes the differences between the two models.

There are only two parts that the new and the old Sharan have in common: the sun visors. That’s it! Everything else every screw, every exterior and interior part and all of the technology, including the TDI and TSI engines (103kW/140PS to 147kW/200PS) and transmission systems (DSG option al) is new.

Getting straight into it, the new Sharan range, the first MPV to be designed by Walter de Silva and Klaus Bischoff. boasts four engines, evenly split between petrol and diesel and all featuring turbocharging. On the diesel side, VW offers two TSI engines, developing 110kW/150PS and 147kW/200PS, while on the petrol front, the TDI units output 103kW/140PS and 125kW/170PS.

On the outside, the new Sharan features the new design language featured by VW on all its new models. This can be seen mostly in the front, where the front grille is basically the same as the ones on say the Golf or Touareg. As already hinted, the Sharan features electric sliding rear doors.

The interior has been completely redesigned and reconfigured. There will be three base version interiors with five, six or seven seats. The rear seats will benefit from the new EasyFold seating concept, allowing them to be folded into the floor, without having to be removed to make room.

The Sharan will be available in three equipment levels, Trendline (base version), Comfortline (mid-level version) and Highline (top of the range version). Nine colors will be available for the Sharan, while VW will offer two different option packs: 6-seater pack and a 7-seater pack.

The Sharan Trendline will come with seven airbags, including knee, tire pressure indicator, automatic activation of hazard warning lights in the

event of sudden, hard braking and electric child locks for the rear doors and rear window. On the outside, the trim sets itself apart through chrome strips in the top radiator grille, electrically heated and adjustable mirrors, day-time running lights, 16-inch alloy wheels with 205 tires, tinted windows and all body-colored trims.

Sharan Comfortline adds 16-inch Memphis alloy wheels with 215 tires, a chrome rim around the bottom radiator grille, the side windows’ chrome border, black roof rails and a wind-screen also fitted with heat reflective glass.

The top of the range Highline comes with 17-inch (‘Sydney’) alloy wheels with 225 tires, heated windscreen washer jets and chrome-trimmed roof rails set this top-of-the-range version apart.

Below you can find the very long and detailed PDF describing the Sharan.
