Used Car: 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt Review

The 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt has good performance, cargo space and safety scores for the class, but its uncomfortable rear seating and low reliability score could make shoppers think twice.

The 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt is ranked:

The 2010 Cobalt has a pleasant ride for a small car, but if you want a used car with high reliability scores and a spacious interior, other 2010 small cars may be better. Inside, the Cobalt has cramped seating. The front seats have more room than the back, but test drivers didn’t think they were very comfortable.

However, both the sedan and coupe models have good cargo space.

The base Cobalt comes equipped with a four-speaker stereo that has an auxiliary input jack and satellite radio, but air conditioning isn’t standard. Higher trims can come with cruise control, Bluetooth and a stereo that has a USB port. The base Cobalt lacks standard safety features such as anti-lock brakes, traction control and electronic stability control.

The Cobalt’s safety scores are above average for the class.

The Chevy Cobalt is available with two four-cylinder engines. Lower trims have a 2.2-liter engine that gets 25/35 mpg city/highway. The base engine isn’t the most refined in the class, but with a comfortable ride and good fuel economy ratings, reviewers said the Cobalt is practical.

The SS model has a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that makes 105 more horsepower than the base model and is pretty fuel-efficient, considering how much horsepower it makes.

Other Cars to Consider

Available as a sedan or coupe, the 2010 Kia Forte is a good alternative to the Cobalt if you need a small car with good cargo space, competitive fuel economy and enough power to take you through your weekly commute. Like many small cars, the Forte’s back seat isn’t the most spacious, but it does have good cargo space. The Forte’s fuel economy ratings aren’t as high as the Cobalt’s, but it does have a quality cabin, a generous list of tech features, a higher reliability score and more standard safety features.

The 2010 Ford Focus. which is also available as a sedan or coupe, stands out because it has a lot more interior and safety features than the Cobalt. The Focus also has better safety ratings and a higher reliability score. The Focus offers nimble handling and good fuel economy, but some reviews wanted more power.
