Used Car: 2009 Chrysler Town Country Review

The 2009 Chrysler Town Country features innovative interior space that’s family-friendly, but lacks the refinement and reliability of rival minivans.

The 2009 Chrysler Town Country is ranked:

Once a titan among minivans, the 2009 Chrysler Town Country has seen fierce competition from Honda and Toyota in recent years. When it was new, the 2009 Chrysler Town Country was lauded by reviewers for its convenient seating and cargo space, but that was usually where the praise ended. With the exception of new rear seats, the 2009 Town Country didn’t change much from the 2008 model. so you might be able to save money by shopping for an older model.

Each trim level comes equipped with a different engine. The base LX model was slammed by reviewers for being underpowered and sluggish. However, they felt that the engines in Touring and Limited models provide good power.

The Town Country only received average crash test scores for the class.

Inside, reviewers found that the second- and third-row seats were better suited for children. The 2009 Town Country features standard Stow ‘n Go or available Swivel ‘n Go seats that allow for different interior configurations. The Stow ‘n Go seats fold flat to create more cargo room, while the Swivel ‘n Go seats can turn to face the third row, which creates a mini family room complete with a removable table.

For test drivers, the Town Country’s main drawback was the poor build quality and cheaply-assembled interior. It also comes with a poor reliability rating.

The Town Country came with several standard interior and safety features that pleased reviewers and test drivers when it was new. Notable standard features include cruise control, power windows and door locks and a four-speaker stereo with an auxiliary input. Available features include satellite radio, a DVD entertainment system and a navigation system.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2009 Kia Sedona offers a great safety score and better reliability. Reviewers liked the Sedona’s standard features, which include a USB jack and satellite radio. Most test drivers also felt that the base Sedona’s more-powerful engine meant that it outperformed the base Town Country.

Consider the 2009 Honda Odyssey for its strong build quality, smooth handling and comfortable interior. Even though the Odyssey may not have Stow ‘n Go or Swivel ‘n Go seating options, it outshines the Town Country and the Sedona in performance, interior quality and safety. Many reviewers agreed that the Odyssey is the benchmark for minivans because of its superior handling and interior space.
