The Bottom Line

When the SX4 hatchback (now known as the SX4 made its debut in 2007, it earned a spot on our Best New of 2007 list — not because it was (and, at $15,895, is) the least-expensive car you could buy with but because it was (and still is) a small car: Brilliantly well equipped, and fun to drive, if a thirsty for its size. So when announced that the SX4 sedan

SX4 Sport) would premiere in with front-wheel-drive, I was skeptical. So how the sedan stack up? Read on.

Guide Review – Suzuki SX4 Sport Quick Drive

With no all-wheel-drive and a price tag just $500 than the SX4 Crossover, the SX4 isn’t as good a deal as its hatchback And yet it’s still a really little car. It lacks the grip of the AWD version, but it’s huge fun to zip around in. And zip it does, with an automatic transmission, to the 143 horsepower two-liter engine goes to photo).

That said, an engine big for a car this small is overkill I averaged just 26.6 A car this small should be to average 30-plus.

I really like the SX4’s — the big wheels and plastic extensions work really with the SX4’s short, shape and tall windows. is great and the tall roof for a tall back seat. makes for a great deal legroom than you’d in a car this small — like the hatchback. But the SX4 also several small-car faux pas though the trunk is generous at cubic feet, the back don’t fold down and no trunk release button on the keyfob .

The SX4 Sport comes with everything, a CD player. alloy and air conditioning, all standard, for well $15k. But the Honda Fit delivers all less alloy wheels, for $300 less; ditto the Versa sedan for $500 Both the Honda and Nissan get better fuel economy, and the is roomier.

Even with its shortcomings, I enjoyed my week with the SX4 Without all wheel drive, the SX4 isn’t the great deal the SX4 hatchback is — but it’s a pretty darn good — Aaron Gold
