I did not find any fail safe relay nor did the Mitsubishi parts guy know what I was talking about. I dug through what seemed like hundreds of similar forums and finally found where someone described the location, ‘ under the right side kick panel’. There are 2 relays there one is a fuel relay and the other the ECM for $32.00 at. Read More

Did you ever get any answers on your slipping issue or find a resolution? I have the same make/model and am experiencing that same issue, when my transmission goes into gear it feels like it is slipping, it kinda jerks a little.

I am having a problem I think. It feels like when my transmission goes into gear it feels like it is slipping. Is this a problem. I don’t remember it doing this in the past. I have about 75,000 miles on it.

Someone suggested that I pour two cans of carbueter fluid in it. Is this safe. Could it be a sensor?

TPS voltage calibration.

Written by: atiles on Mar 3, 2011 11:58:00 AM

I’m in the process of replacing the TPS sensor, however, I have read in several places online that I must calibrate the TPS once its replaced. I have a digital multimeter, however, I’m not really sure how to calibrate the TPS. The TPS looks as a plug and play type of sensor, but it does have a spring in the back that looks as it can be rotated for adjustment, Is. Read More

Written by: kevlargirl on Feb 15, 2011 12:46:57 PM

Just purchased a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport 4×4, it has 136000 miles on it already. I know buying a used car you always get what you pay for and then some. We thought it was a great family car. now when you drive around 20-50 mph she begins to shudder like she can’t find the right gear than you hear this racket that sounds like when you drive over the wake. 4×4 stopped engaging –

Written by: kpearce2 on Feb 22, 2010 9:17:26 AM

I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport XS. Two days ago the 4×4 stopped working and there is a rattling sound underneath as if something is loose. Is my 4×4 transmission shot or is there something else going on telling the computer to the 4×4 to stop working? Has anyone had this problem with the 4×4 just stopping?

We live in Colorado and presently can’t get it out of the driveway. Read More

Hey Guys, After finding this forum when experiencing this exact problem I was extremely happy! Big question though. While researching the part, I found a pre-2000 to 2000 solenoid, and a 2001-2005 solenoid.

Unfortunately the parts site, does not show actual part numbers, so I can not tell which is which. (I own a 2000) – For those that have ordered and/or replaced this part, was the number different than posted. Read More

How did you solve this problem? More importantly, how did you get the drum open in the first place to get to the brake pads? I went to change the rear pads yesterday for the first time (I bought the Sport used) and was surprised to see that kind of assembly on disc brakes. Thanks, John

Lurching at acceleration

Written by: john215 on Nov 24, 2007 10:23:41 AM

I have a 2001 Montero Sport XLS. After driving on highway for extended time and pull into toll booth the truck does not accelerate after depressing accelerator. There is a hesitation and then the truck lunges forward like you are doing a neutral drop or popping your clutch in a manual transmission car. It only does this after driving for an hour or so on the highway.

Does not do this. Read More

Montero Sport Commercial

Written by: aling1 on Feb 7, 2000 7:02:14 AM

Yes, it is an interesting commercial. But, what they don’t tell you is that the Montero Sport crash tested http://www.hwysafety.org/vehicle_ratings/ce/mid_suvs/montero_sport.htm with poor results (nearly the worse of the pack; the GMC Jimmy and Chevy Blazer twins were the worse), so its not really in tuned with Mitsubishi promoting it as a family vehicle. I’d take my chances in a minivan (except the GM ones) over the Montero Sport any day.
