1999 Nissan Pathfinder questions and answers

Q: Nissan Pathfinder 1999 – Is my transmission going out?

My 99 Nissan Pathfinder (4×2) was towed away in HB, cal. It was parked head in with the tires turned. After recovering my vehicle I noticed immediately that something was wrong with the way my car was shifting. It was struggling to shift into 1st and 2nd (afterwards it is fine). It almost feels like it is a manual transmission when getting into first gear.

Also cruise control is no longer an option. it went crazy on me on the freeway, took itself out of cruise, and started decelerating as if it was in neutral (I was still in drive) and any attempt to accelerate just made the rpm needle jump but I continued to slow down. I had to pull off and let the car sit parked for a couple of minutes then start again. I didn’t try cruise again. What is going on with my car.

Is it just freakish bad luck that my transmission is going out after they towed my car. Or did the towing company screw up my car! HELP

A: I hate to be the one to give you the bad news, but anytime you tow a rear wheel drive vehicle, you must tow it back of the car jack up and off the ground or you must take out the drive shaft. The reason for this is, in the transmission there is a pump that pumps the transmission fluid into the torque converter and the converter sends fluid pressure to the rest of the transmission.

When you tow a vehicle and the back is on the ground, the wheels turn, which in turn turns the drive shaft and output shaft of the transmission. Now when this happens you have no lubrication, b/c the pump uses engine rpm and not the movement of the wheels to produce fluid pressure. Unfortunately this lack of lubrication ends up building up friction til a part give away, be it clutches, planets, bearings, thrust washers, etc.

By what you’ve already mentioned, it sounds like the damage is already done and your more than likely going to have to have it overhauled. Good luck with it, and I hope this helps!

Q: Price of a car bumper of Nissan Pathfinder 1999.

Any idea what would be the Price of a car bumper of Nissan Pathfinder 1999. If the other person will come through insurance how much at the end I have pay to settle the issue.

A: go to car-parts .com this is a nation wide search engine for used parts.

Q: Why my nissan 1999 pathfinder keeps the brake lights on all time?

A: If you mean the brake lights at the rear of the vehicle, it sounds like a short in the brake light circuit. Probably the brakelight switch, which is up under the dash by the top of brake pedal arm. If you don’t mind contorting yourself on the floor while you reach up under the dash, it’s not too hard to change.

If you mean the brake light in the instrument cluster, either the brake fluid is low or you have a more serious problem that should be looked at by a mechanic.

Q: Confused about the 4 wheel drive on my 1999 nissan pathfinder?

how does it work..what speeds can i and cant i do..how do i turn it off..when is it necessary..first time when 4×4 drive and oh so confused

A: Your system uses a shift lever that has to be engaged when stopped in neutral. After using 4×4 you must back up 3 meters to disengage the auto front hubs. Also do not use all wheel low or 4 wheel drive on hard surfaces.

To take your truck out of 4 low or 4 high while your idling in neutral move the transfer case shift lever push down and shift fore and aft to the 2wd position then engage reverse trans shift lever back up 9 feet or so. If the front hubs do not disengage you will hear clicking noise like a bicycle coasting. Back up again. Try to get an owners manual to read about the 4×4 system.

And special service precautions.

Q: Location of Bank 2 Sensor 2 (o2 sensor) on a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder?

Q: Can a Nissan Pathfinder 1999 rival a toyota Runner in very hard rocky roads in mountains?

I need to travel hundreds of kilometers every month in the mountains of Bolivia. The roads are really bad. People here always say that Toyota is better than Nissan, that toyota does not get ruined so fast as nissan, specially in this roads.

What is your opinion?

A: Despite loving Nissan, and owning a 300ZX and Pathfinder, I would never put it through the same treatment that a Hilux can take. I do give it heaps, but its too low to really do the hard yards. It has to be the Toyota, it will go harder longer, plus more have been sold there, so parts and knowledge will be more available if needed. Check this video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=nD0UVI99R8Q

Q: Will a cd player from a 1999 Nissan pathfinder fit a 1995 nissan pathfinder?

A: no it will not.

Q: How many more years/ miles can I expect out of a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder that has 60k miles currenlty?

A: if your planning to drive it till it dies on you and you take good care of it expect at least 180k and 12 yrs. cars vary much when they leave the factory and depending on how it has been treated and whether it was broken in well will have a lot of effect on its lifespan

Q: My 1999 Nissan Pathfinder has a starting problem, and its not the battery. What could be the problem?

The car just turned dead while I was driving it.that was very scary. After installing a new battery, I drove it home, but in the next morning, the same problem remained (when turning the ignition, it’s like the gas doesn’t come up) With a new battery, the car tend to start but doesn’t. After parking it for one day It did start the day after and later It didn’t.

Every time you try the ignition key, you can hear the engine sound like t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t, but still, the car doesn’t want to run completely. So, it’s not the battery.

A: If a car dies while you are driving, i would take a look at the alternator. You said you got a new battery so I am hearing that the car would not turn over at all leading you to buy a new battery. The alternator powers the car while it is running and recharges your battery, a battery’s only job is to start the car. To test this.

Jump start your car with another car- getting yours running. Once running. turn on the headlights. radio, etc. If the car stalls out or the headlights start to dim..Alternator is bad.

I hope this helps- Good luck.

Q: 1999 nissan pathfinder knock sensor diagram?

Q: Im replacing the door speakers in a 1999 nissan pathfinder, any details on the getting the door panels off?

Im going to go today and do this and I was just seeing if anybody had any details about takeing off the door panels and trim. Thanks. Oh, I’m relpaceing both front and rear.

The only screws if im not mistaken, are the ones in the armrest. And if you take those out the door panel doesnt just fall off. Im wondering about where the clips are and the trim i believe that all snaps off, right?

A: you should also have to take the clips out of the widow handle, and be carefull when removing if it was power locks/windows as you wont get much slack. check in door handles, and behind the door open handle and under arm rest for more hidden screws, after you know youy have all screws out, and window handle * if applicable ) off just lift back on the bottom of the pannel, should hear it unclip, and yes, it will take some force

Q: Fuel pump Need to be changed Nissan 1999 pathfinder?

I have a Nissan Pathfinder with 162,000 miles on it. I have never replaced the fuel pump on it. I am currently not having any problems with the pathfinder running.

I am taking it to the shop to get the fuel filter changed soon should I get the fuel pump replaced also due to he high milage.

A: if your going to take that attitude you may as well replace the engine and trans as well nissan fuel pumps are good ones some of them you don’t need to pull the tank to replace don’t replace it until you have a problem its not a scheduled maintenance item it may out last the car spend your cash on a night out with your wife/ girlfriend you will get more value for that
