A: check fuel pressure. check fuel volume. check for vacuum leaks. check map sensor. check tps. check. take it to a good mechanic near you and let him diagnose it. you can try to fix it yourself but if all you do is throw parts at it, you may never guess the right one.

Q: I got an error code of P0118 on my 1999 Kia Sephia. It says Engine Coolant Temp Circuit High Input.

The Car is also overheating with this code. Does this have anything to do with transmission, as I had it rebuilt in 2006. What do I need to do fix this and parts required to solve the problem.

WE BOUGHT THIS CAR A WEEK AGO IT HAS ONLY 66000 MILES IT WAS RUNNING FINE FOR 3 DAYS, IT GOT HOT AND DIED, IT WILL NOT START, BUT IT NEVER GOT HOT ENOUGH TO BOIL THE RADIATOR IS SHOT. A: Sorry but those cars are horrible. i had one the exact same year. it hasnt run in years. brakes always needed constant changing. it ran fine until it reached 100,000 mark. Transmission went out and engine is shot. timing is long gone on it!!junk it is my advice!!

JUST BOUGHY IT USED 66000 MILES GOT HOT IM THINKING HEAD GASKET OR CRACKED HEAD BUT I FOUND NO WATER IN OIL OR COMING OUT ENGINE ANYWHERE ANY OTHER POSSIBILITIES BEFORE I TEAR IT DOWN.

A: Well, I would verify the coolant is fine, also could be a problem in the coolant system like a bad water pump or thermostat, especially if it only had water and not a 50-50 water/coolant mix. Make sure the electric fan is coming on. I would check a whole bunch of things before jumping into a head removal situation.

A: A good car – I had a KIA SEPHIA 1999 and kept it for 4 years and it never gave me any problems.

Q: Should I fix my Kia Sephia or get another car?

I just bought a 1999 Kia Sephia for $1,700. The motor mount needs to be replaced, transmission needs to be replaced, radiator blew last night, there are minor leaks and there may be some more small things. I’m thinking it will cost about $2 – 3 grand to fix everything up.

The car has 79k miles. Should I fix it up or trash it and get another car? What I’m thinking: 79k is not bad mileage and after I fix all the probs, at least I know everything is new. As long as the engine is fine, I should be able to drive the car another 80k or so without any major problems (not bad for about $4,000).

If I sell the car, it will go for maybe $1,000 as I bought it for $1,700 without knowing the transmission is going. Then I’ll need to buy another used car for $4k or so with higher mileage (Kia has bad resale, thus the low price / mileage) and I wont know if the new car will give me any major problems. I’m 18, so don’t make fun of my budget. lol Fix or buy another car?

A: The problem here is that if you spend the money to fix this car and it ends up having more problems in a month or so, you’ll lose money selling it. I would trash it asap because of the poor resale value of Kias. If you are looking for an inexpensive car, Saturns have always been good to me. They are cheap to buy, cheap to fix, and they get great mileage( I have a ’95 SL2 with 149K miles on it, and it still gets 30mpg!)

Q: What would make the engine on my kia sephia suddenly hesitate when I floor the accelerator?

The vehicle is a 1999 Kia Sephia with a 5-speed manual transmission and 93,000K miles. About 500 miles ago (last month), I had an oil filter change, an air filter change, and the belts replaced. Since then, I have filled the gas tank twice. The first thing I noticed that was wrong was that when I tried to accelerate up a hill in 5th (something I did regularly to 75mph), when I floored it, the engine hesitated and bucked until I backed off the accelerator.

On level ground or a much lower grade, acceleration was not a problem. The other thing I noticed was over a 20% drop in fuel efficiency. I usually average 30-32 mpg, but on the two recent tanks, I’m averaging 24-25 mpg. Neither my driving habits or even destinations have changed during this time.

Any ideas out there?

A: It is common for rookie mechanics oil changers to accidentally knock a vacuum line loose or off a fitting, which would cause a lean situation in your combustion chambers and a hesitation and loss of mileage. I would first look for a hose disconnected and while I was doing that I would also look for any cracks in the hoses. Any air leak in your vacuum hoses will cause your engine to run lean and to hesitate.

If al looks well then I would next check the sensor that monitors the incoming air, most are in the o hose just behind the air filter box. Just one piece of lint or debris can cause your air fuel mixture to be wrong and consequently throttle response problems. But a good rue of thumb is any time your car has been running correctly and some one services it and then it starts running badly, the first place I look is where they worked.

I go over every inch of where they have been with a fine toothed comb. Ninety nine percent of the time I find the problem. If you still can`t locate the problem then you need to have it put on an analyzer so it can be repaired. Any lean fuel problem can burn pistons and valves in the head ( s ).
