Evening all

Right, this isn’t the most retro of cars I’ll admit, but its 17 years old now so not it’s not the newest of cars either! As it’s come to the time that some changes / fixes are to be done, I thought it would be good to start a thread.

But it is imported, and it does have a daft name

She’s a 2.5 turbo diesel automatic – not exactly quick but doesn’t seem to make any difference how much crap you fill it up with either! Odometer says 220k, but I know it had a new engine

65k ago at a reputable place.

We bought her back at the start of summer 2012 and have so far taken it to a couple of festivals, around Northern France and its moonlighted as a removals van. Also now been pressed into service as a daily driver since Christmas due to needing to flog my Carlton to get a car for my OH – although as it averages 25mpg, and to keep the miles down, I’m trying to ride to work as much as possible!

Electric elevating roof:

DIY rear kitchen – looks pretty good here but all the hinged bits fell off the first time we used it in anger as all the screwheads were undersized Fixed and improved now.

Seats fold down into a bed – our setup uses the rear kitchen shelf as part of the bed base. We use a thick self inflating mattress over the top with some strategically placed pillows to fill the gaps in the seat bases and its mega comfy:

Through the year it’s going to get pressed into service at a couple of festivals, and for mountain biking trips, as well as inevitable numerous other spur of the moment trips. So plans for the year:

Leisure battery and split charging system – fitted

Towbar and electrics for a bike rack – purchased to be fitted over the next week or so – has been delayed by item 10!

New hard vinyl floor to replace the carpet – pretty much done – need to knock up some trim bits over time and quite a few things I’ll improve after the summer – not bad for a first attempt though. Found some proper bodges under the existing carpet as well – old brackets, offcuts of carpet, bits of wood, foam etc!

Cambelt, tensioner. waterpump etc – done (at a known good garage as had no space / time / braveness to do it myself this time round). Need to do the alternator belt x 2 and the power steering rack.

Fix rust – hmmm, investigate rust. see item 6 😉 Had some work done so far on the rear of the chassis but also needs new rear arches (Lovecraftian horrors hide under the arch covers) – bongos like to rust! This needs to be done soon so looking for friendly welders on the IoW!

Buy welder, learn to weld, review Item No. 5

Steering rack weeps – needs new seals – not too bad though so can just keep an eye on it.

Sort out AC – regassed and it works! Took a shed load of gas but she’s nice and chilly now

Sort out some trim panels / stereo panel as looks a tad half-arsed.

New exhaust – stock one snapped two weeks ago, been welded up and is blowing badly again – can’t really afford it but just dug deep and ordered a full stainless system:

Some horrible vibration at speed was traced to some not even close centre borage on the wheels – fixed with some of these:

She makes a good biking wagon as well

Mods wise will primarily be internal, but I fancy a slight drop and some anthracite wheels.

Internally its a bit grey and modern and quite dull – so would quite fancy sourcing another interior and having a play.

Would love to try and make it a bit more classic-looking but not really sure how to do it without it looking crap. Its all soft touch / padded so nothing obvious to get started on – mota lita wheel would be nice though!
