1993 Peugeot 405 SRDT 1.9 diesel from Australia and New

Great cheap comfortable

Loose engine mount, a knocking sound as the engine Just needed tightening.

pump failed at 210000km. technician said it was due to unusually wear.

One rear electrical driving the rear interior electric aerial and boot wasn#039;t working. Turned out to be a joiner under the driver

Fuel tank senders very good, we tried two of and due to the mechanical damping on them, failed to go right to the bottom of the and stopped at about 1/8 of a tank. I up removing the damper and put up with a which moves around a bit.

General Comments:

Overall I recommend the Peugeot 405 as a long cruiser.

The turbo-diesel engine great economy on a long I have had as low as 5.8L/100km on the highway on pump diesel, but normal is around 6.5L/100km.

The car has sufficient to get along nicely, for a 15 year old is got a heap of power but this seems to deliver it very The gearing of the car is best suited to at about 130kmph, that is its quietest and most responsive. At it just doesn#039;t have enough revs to spool the so passing requires 4th gear if you to pass in a hurry.

The turbo picks up about in 5th gear.

It is a very comfortable which makes it well to open road driving. very solid on the road and confidence for the driver. I have about four 650km hauls in this, and when you get out at the end you feel fresh and don#039;t a sore back at all, but is only if you set the seats correctly.

This car isn#039;t really set up for town running, the engine and is quite cumbersome so making difficult to get perfect, and the power of the engine likes revs to be under 3000rpm. It#039;s not a car to drive around town, but not as nippy as a small hatchback.

noise is very good, not of that at all apart from on rough chip seal. noise is there, it#039;s enough to know it#039;s a but once you are at highway speeds, you notice it. Around town and driving, you can hear the engine, it isn#039;t obtrusive.

Handling is superb. As I said it sits very nicely on the Perfectly balanced between and oversteer, there#039;s almost no and no oversteer that I have

The dynamic set-up of the car really it into the drivers-car category. It have the power to be a race but the handling and driver feedback, means that this car like nothing else in its

Build quality is average. The is flexible (great for dynamics), means you get squeaks from panels, mainly the rear shelf. The dashboard feels and solid, no complaints there. The handles don#039;t really definite, but the doors do shut and quiet.

You can#039;t fold the rear seat, which is a sometimes, but it means the back is very comfortable as it#039;s moulded to the car.

Would to have it lowered, it sits high at the back when the is empty. The front is kinda as well. I intend on getting an model at some stage, has sportier suspension and a much powerful engine.

We run ours on home brew It runs great on this, and seem to have any negative whatsoever, which is good. The pump failure was not related to (main shaft wear front seal and let in air, so the car run).

Would you buy another car this manufacturer? Yes
