eBay Listing: 1978 Pontiac Trans Am

Certain American made cars become iconic, usually due to their design features, styling, or power. And the iconic classic America cars put out by G.M. include 1957 Chevrolets, 1959 Cadillac’s, 1963 Corvette Sting Ray split windows, and 1969 Camaro’s. There are many other cars not mentioned here no doubt, but those designs that stand the test of time have the unique expression of what can be achieved by putting pencil to paper. All of these iconic G.M. cars scream “America!”

Another car that does so is the subject of today’s article, which is the second generation Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am built from 1970-1981. It was “THE” car to have in the 1970’s, especially after it was featured in the 1977 film “Smokey and the Bandit.” In the television show “That 70’s Show,” the scripts occasionally included lines like “I love the Trans-Am!” and “Everybody does…” Why does “everybody” love the Trans-Am?

It might be the low-slung road hugging body style, or its racing pedigree. Or, it might be that so many were featured in television and films.

But in this case, it is all of the above and one a single ballsy or bold design feature, the Phoenix graphic on the hood of the car. It is just such a cool idea to put a graphic of a mythological creature above the power plant surrounding a functional hood scoop.

American automobiles of the past have often been defined by power, styling, and design features. The Trans-Am at certain points in its existence usually had two of the three or more, which says a lot for that now extinct brand name.

Today’s feature car is a 1978 Trans Am that is circa Smokey and the Bandit cars, which were 1977 Trans Am’s. It also has wheels from an automotive parts company Year One and a four-speed manual transmission. The listing details that the car has plenty of new parts and according to the seller, “Motor and transmission which were freshly redone due to the car sitting for about 15 years.” What caught our eye about this car was the clean lines of the deep black paint which appears new as the ad describes, and the well documented pictures which show the overall condition of the car.
